About Our Shelter:

The Animal Protection Society of Durham operates the Durham County Animal Shelter. We strive for the humane care, treatment, and well-being of all animals. It is our goal to prevent cruelty to animals, stop pet overpopulation, and find good homes for the lost, abandoned, abused, and neglected animals in our area. We handle more than 6,000 dogs, cats, puppies, and kittens each year.

Come Meet our Pets:

The Durham County Animal Shelter is located on East Club Boulevard, just off of I-85. Take the East Club Boulevard exit (#179). If heading north on I-85, turn left onto E. Club. If heading south on I-85, turn right onto E. Club. Go 1/4 on East Club Boulevard. The shelter is a brick building on the right.

Our Adoption Process:

Dog/Puppy Adoption Fee: $95
Cat/Kitten Adoption Fee: $75
This includes first set of vaccinations, rabies shot if old enough, heartworm test for dogs, feline leukemia test for cats, and spay/neuter surgery.
Animals will be adopted out as indoor companions only. Adopters must fill out an adoption application and meet all requirements before they can visit with an animal. Once an adopter visits with an animal and decides to adopt it, the animal will be spayed/neutered before it is sent home.

Why should you adopt?

Dog adoption and cat adoption saves lives. Adopt a dog or adopt a cat and you'll have a friend for life! What is the difference between adopting a dog, adopting a cat, adopting a kitten or adopting a puppy versus getting dogs for sale, cats for sale, puppies for sale or kittens for sale from a dog breeder or a cat breeder? When someone is breeding puppies or breeding kittens, they are creating new dogs and cats who need homes. Some people are interested in a very specific breed of dog, cat, puppy or kitten and they think the only way to find that specific breed is to buy a dog for sale or buy a cat for sale from a puppy breeder or a kitten breeder. Yet animal shelters are filled with dogs and cats who must find homes. So rather than buying a dog or puppy for sale from a dog breeder or buying a cat or kitten for sale from a cat breeder, we encourage people to adopt a dog, adopt a cat, adopt a puppy or adopt a kitten at their local animal shelter, SPCA, humane society or pet rescue group.

Humane America Animal Foundation, dba Adopt-a-Pet.com, is a non-profit, tax-deductible 501(c)(3) adoption advertising charity. Our mission (and passion) is to help get homeless pets out of the shelters and into loving homes. Let us know what you think! Suggestion & Comment Box
