About Our Shelter:

The City of Salinas Animal Shelter is responsible for the collection and shelter of stray and unwanted animals within the city limits. We also have a great adoption program. The Animal Shelter is a great place to get your new pet because we take care and pre-screen the animals we place for adoption and we help you find a pet that will fit your needs and lifestyle. We want you and your pet to live happily together.

Come Meet our Pets:

To get to the shelter, follow Hwy. 68 or Davis Rd. to Hitchcock Rd. There is a large sign by the road. Turn and follow the one lane road about 300 yards until the road curves left. The Salinas Animal Shelter is a white building. Note that as you come to the one lane road you will see large billboard cutouts of a a German Shephard puppy and a kitten cutout next to a animal shelter on your right. That is NOT our shelter; it is the Monterey County animal Shelter. You will find us at the end of the road.

Our Adoption Process:

We are open Tusdays through Saturdays from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Why should you adopt?

Dog adoption and cat adoption saves lives. Adopt a dog or adopt a cat and you'll have a friend for life! What is the difference between adopting a dog, adopting a cat, adopting a kitten or adopting a puppy versus getting dogs for sale, cats for sale, puppies for sale or kittens for sale from a dog breeder or a cat breeder? When someone is breeding puppies or breeding kittens, they are creating new dogs and cats who need homes. Some people are interested in a very specific breed of dog, cat, puppy or kitten and they think the only way to find that specific breed is to buy a dog for sale or buy a cat for sale from a puppy breeder or a kitten breeder. Yet animal shelters are filled with dogs and cats who must find homes. So rather than buying a dog or puppy for sale from a dog breeder or buying a cat or kitten for sale from a cat breeder, we encourage people to adopt a dog, adopt a cat, adopt a puppy or adopt a kitten at their local animal shelter, SPCA, humane society or pet rescue group.
