Pets at Our Shelter:

About Our Shelter:

We are a group of concerned individuals, who greatly care about animals, especially dogs in our rural county. We see hundreds of dogs just dumped out in our vast rural areas, and we hope to make a difference in their lives. This organization has been in existance since 1979, when it was started by a small group of caring individuals. We have now grown and, and are continuing to do so. We found loving, caring homes for over 200 dogs just this past year, and hope to get only bigger and better in the years to come. We are a no-kill shelter, so our pets stay with us until suitable homes are found. We have a very strict adoption criteria, and screen our adopters well. Adopt-a-Pet is the only shelter of its kind in our county, which makes it even more important that we can expand our facilities, and are looking to do so very soon, with the help of donations, and grants. We are an all volunteer staff, and have many dedicated volunteers, who work very hard everyday, cleaning, feeding, brushing, and just loving these delightful animals. We are funded strictly by donations, and even our adoption fees are by donation. We have had to suggest a minimum donation, since our Vet bills have gone up tremendously. We have a monthly rummage sale, run by a group of volunteers, very dedicated to our cause. This helps us pay for our dog food, and other supplies. We have a great vision for the future, and are very excited to get out into the public with our dogs. Right now we have 13 kennels, with three kennels large enough to house 4 dogs at a time. We have the capacity to hold up to 25 dogs at a time, and hope to be able to expand that soon.

Come Meet our Pets:

We are located in the city of Shelton, in the State of Washington, just north of Olympia, WA. off of HWY 101. We have on site kennels, and are open in the afternoons, from 1-4 P.M. We are by appointment only, at this time. We do the adoptions on site at the kennels. In the summer months we do take some animals to our local Petco on some weekends for viewing. Directions are given via email or by phone at the time of setting the appointment. All our dogs are vet checked, spayed or neutered, get all their vaccinations, are wormed, have their nails trimmed, and have advantage applied, before they come to the kennels to be made ready for adoption.

Our Adoption Process:

Our fees are by donation. The suggested donation for an adult dog is $65-$100. For small Puppies, who need extra shots, worming, and time, it is $85-$100, or more, which is always appreciated. We require all our potential adopters to fill our application forms, which are reviewed by the adoption counsellor handling the adoption. There is also a contract that is signed at the time of the adoption, and is gone over with the adopter at that time. We require a disclosure of how the adopter plans to care for dog, what kind of containment system will they provide, home situation, work schedules, vet care, children, and other pets involved, etc.? Once the person is approved, and we deem no further checks are necessary, they can go home with their new pet in hand, on the same day, since our dogs are all ready for adoption once they are posted on the internet. I can provide photos of the shelter and staff at a later time, since we are in the process of remodel, and re-vamping our web site.

Why should you adopt?

Dog adoption and cat adoption saves lives. Adopt a dog or adopt a cat and you'll have a friend for life! What is the difference between adopting a dog or puppy versus getting dogs for sale or puppies for sale from a dog breeder? When someone is breeding puppies, they are creating new dogs who need homes. Some people are interested in a very specific breed of dog or puppy and they think the only way to find that specific breed is to buy a dog for sale from a puppy breeder. Yet animal shelters are filled with dogs who must find homes. So rather than buying a dog or puppy for sale from a dog breeder, we encourage people to adopt a dog or adopt a puppy at their local animal shelter, SPCA, humane society or pet rescue group.
