About Our Shelter:

Oconee County Animal Control's goal is to place animals into the right home. Applications are not on a 1st come 1st to adopt basis. There is a 24 hour waiting period on all Pet Adoption Applications. If you rent, the shelter must have authorization from your landlord. If you have other dogs or cats, they must be current on its Rabies vaccination. All animals will be sterilized before leaving the shelter. The adoption fee includes: sterilization, Rabies vaccination, micro-chipping, exam, and the animal adoption precessing fee. The adoption fee is $75 for male dogs and cats, $90 for all females under 25#, and $100 for all females over 25#. All animals will be sterilized prior to the new owner taking possession.

The shelter is open to the public on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from 10-5, and Saturday from 10-2 - unless there is a special event ~ please call before coming down, so you don't waste a trip. The shelter is closed to the public on Wednesdays, but appointments may be available for reclaims or adoptions. Sundays and all holidays the shelter is closed. The shelter responds to emergency calls during non-business hours. When inquiring about an animal, please include your telephone number, mailing and e-mail address.

Oconee County enforces all Animal Control Ordinances. This includes abandonment, cruelty investigations, and neglect. Animal Control Director Catlyn A. Manor has an open door policy. If you have any type of animal problem or concern, please feel free to come by or contact the shelter at 706-769-3956. If Catlyn is not available, leave a message and she will return your call.The shelter takes every opportunity to go into schools and teach responsible pet ownership, pet care, owner responsibility, and promotes spay/neuter education. The shelter works closely with the Rabies Control Officer on bite exposures, quarantines, and aids in educating the public with Rabies concerns.

Volunteers are always needed at the shelter and at adoption events. Call for more information.
