Backyard Friends
About Our Rescue Group
Backyard Friends was started because of and is now dedicated to the memory of my Jessie, a beautiful little nursing torti who was rescued from the streets with a broken leg, and came to live with me for 10 loving years. So this is for you my beauty.....We are not a registered charity, just a few friends who love cats. We concentrate on pregnant cats and kittens as these seem to be the most common throw aways. In 2002 we rescued and found homes for 12 cats, and now the numbers have increased to over 200+ cats & kittens yearly.
Once in our care, the rescued felines are taken to Western Animal Clinic where they receive the treatment and care every animal should have. After they are tested for disease and examined by a Veterinarian , they are moved to a loving foster home. When the kittens are old enough, they are vaccinated, Mom is spayed and vaccinated and the search for loving, caring, permanent homes begins. We fundraise by selling our homemade catnip toys and cozy cat beds which are available at Western Animal Clinic year round. In addition to this we enter craft sales at malls, special events, garage sales, and are always looking for new ideas. Our goal is to invite volunteers to help us in a variety of areas, from fostering or locating foster and adoption homes for these wonderful animals, making items for sale, or donating wool or materials. Donations can be made to the Backyard Friends Account at Western Animal Clinic, as all money raised goes directly to the animals. Like every organization, we need loving homes that will nuture and love the Moms and kittens entrusted in our care. A quiet room and a good heart are what we need. We cover the rest.. the veterinarian care, food, blankets, toys, litter and lots of love. If you are interested in helping our babies, please email Linda @ backyardfriends@sympatico.ca
Come Meet our Pets
All of our animals are in foster care, and once vaccinated and ready for adoption they can be seen in the condo cage at Western Animal Clinic or in their foster homes.
Our Adoption Process
An adoption agreement must be signed as all of the kittens must be spayed or neutered by a certain date or when recommended by your Veterinarian. The adoption fees for Kittens is $80.00 which includes 1st set of vaccines and examination by their Veterinarian, deworming, and screening for Leukemia if Mom has not been tested. The mother cats are dewormed, treated with Revolution, screened for Leukemia & FIV and examined by our Veterinarian and when the babies are ready for adoption, Mom is spayed and vaccinated. Her adoption fee is $125.00.

Dog adoption and cat adoption saves lives. Adopt a dog or adopt a cat and you'll have a friend for life! What is the difference between adopting a cat or kitten versus getting cats for sale or kittens for sale from a cat breeder? When someone is breeding kittens, they are creating new cats who need homes. Some people are interested in a very specific breed of cat or kitten and they think the only way to find that specific breed is to buy a cat for sale from a kitten breeder. Yet animal shelters are filled with cats who must find homes. So rather than buying a cat or kitten for sale from a cat breeder, we encourage people to adopt a cat or adopt a kitten at their local animal shelter, SPCA, humane society or pet rescue group.
