About Our Rescue Group:SOS Animal Rescue is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization whose mission is to reduce the number of unwanted pets in Midland County through placement and public education.
Like most shelters, we came together because of a love for animals. We couldn't watch so many of them mis-treated, euthanized, and neglected.
So many people are unaware of the severity of the problem. Our rescue is small but growing. We visit local animal control centers each week. We take photos for the newspaper, find animals that we can foster, and keep informed on the animals currently there. It is difficult and often heartbreaking.
So many times, we have photographed an animal and then learned that it wasn't adopted. Sometimes when we visit Control centers, we know an animal will be euthanized and the only thing we can do is take it outside for a walk.
Our mission is to save as many animals as possible and more importantly stop the problem at the source. We have insituted a spay/neuter program for area pet owners who are unable to afford to spay/neuter there animal. We have an excellent education program designed to educate the public on spay/neuter and animal care.
Animal Control agencies are NOT the problem. Animal Control does a service for the community.
The unwanted animal problem stems from an uneducated public. To address this, we teach people to find the right pet for their situation. We provide the facts on spay/neuter. We help owners find training programs.
Animals are not plug n'play. They need love and training to become a member of your family. They are a wonderful lifelong commitment.
