Want to know the steps of our Adoption Process?

1 - One of the first steps to take is to take a look at our available cats. Know what you are looking for in a new family member and see if one of our cats fits into that description. The adoption application will ask you what cat you are interested in applying for.
2 - Please fill out our online adoption application to the best of your ability. Any omitted or incomplete information may delay the processing of your application. Once you submit our online adoption, the completed application will be assigned to a case manager (CM).
3 - You should receive an introductory email from your Case Manager introducing themselves, giving you a projected timeline, and what to expect during the screening process.
4 - Your Case Manager will conduct a telephone interview with you, your personal reference, the landlord (if applicable), and verify your listed vet reference. After the interviews, your application will be voted on for approval or denial by our rescue committee. You will be notified by your Case Manager of the voting outcome.
5 - If approved, you will be asked to submit the adoption agreement and pay the adoption fee. Once those two items are received, you can pick your cat up or work out details with the foster.

*We ask that you keep in mind that we are an all-volunteer organization. We try our best to be professional and efficient, however, there are times that we may be unable to return an email or call immediately. Please be sure that we will communicate with you as soon as possible.

Adopt a Pet is the easiest way for you to search for a new pet in San Jose, CA.

Support adoption and rescue. Why go to a dog breeder, cat breeder or pet store to buy a dog or buy a cat when you can adopt?

Why should you adopt?

Dog adoption and cat adoption saves lives. Adopt a dog or adopt a cat and you'll have a friend for life.

What is the difference between adopting a dog, adopting a cat, adopting a kitten or adopting a puppy versus getting dogs for sale, cats for sale, puppies for sale or kittens for sale from a dog breeder or a cat breeder?

When someone is breeding puppies or breeding kittens, they are creating new dogs and cats who need homes. Some people are interested in a very specific breed of dog, cat, puppy or kitten and they think the only way to find that specific breed is to buy a dog for sale or buy a cat for sale from a puppy breeder or a kitten breeder. Yet animal shelters are filled with dogs and cats who must find homes.

So rather than buying a dog or puppy for sale from a dog breeder or buying a cat or kitten for sale from a cat breeder, we encourage people to adopt a dog, adopt a cat, adopt a puppy or adopt a kitten at their local animal shelter, SPCA, humane society or pet rescue group.
