Dog adoption and cat adoption saves lives. Adopt a dog or adopt a cat and you'll have a friend for life! Contact us, or contact another local humane society, animal shelter or SPCA.
YHS has contracts to care for animals brought in by animal control officers from Prescott, Prescott Valley and Yavapai County.
YHS is not associated with the Humane Society of the United States and is dependent on the generosity of local donors. The facility has the capability of housing 270 animals. We are often filled to capacity but with the help of our foster families, we are able to house additional animals.

When a pet's listing says they are in our foster care program, please call to schedule a meeting. We rescue new animals every day, so check back for updates!
MEET AND GREET:
For dogs: An adoption counselor will take you and a pooch out to the dog park where you can get to know each other and play.
For cats: We have a meet and greet room with toys and a cat play area.
GET THE DETAILS: We will share what we know about the animal(s) you're interested in and answer any questions you might have about bringing an animal home.
FINALIZE THE ADOPTION.
MINIMUM ADOPTION FEES (see Adoption Specials and Promotions)
ON-GOING ADOPTION SPECIALS AND PROMOTIONS
The Buddy System: Often two animals from the same household arrive together, or two animals find their best friend at the shelter. Either way, they'd prefer to go to their new home together. To encourage this, there is only one adoption donation for the two buddies. GREAT NEWS! All of our cats and kittens are on the buddy system!
Seniors for Seniors: Mature pets make great companions! Adopters age 59+ can take advantage of our Seniors for Seniors program, which waives the adoption donation on any animal 5+.
Seniors Program: Matches pets with senior adults (60+ years) for $50 off the adoption fee (some restrictions apply).
Pet of the Week: Our friends at MAGIC 99.1 and FunOldies 1450 sponsor the minimum donation for a special animal each week.
Long Term Resident: Animals who have been available for adoption for 30 days or longer have a $30 adoption fee. Often these animals are overlooked for trivial reasons like color or breed prejudice.
Why should you adopt?
Dog adoption and cat adoption saves lives. Adopt a dog or adopt a cat and you'll have a friend for life! What is the difference between adopting a dog, adopting a cat, adopting a kitten or adopting a puppy versus getting dogs for sale, cats for sale, puppies for sale or kittens for sale from a dog breeder or a cat breeder? When someone is breeding puppies or breeding kittens, they are creating new dogs and cats who need homes. Some people are interested in a very specific breed of dog, cat, puppy or kitten and they think the only way to find that specific breed is to buy a dog for sale or buy a cat for sale from a puppy breeder or a kitten breeder. Yet animal shelters are filled with dogs and cats who must find homes. So rather than buying a dog or puppy for sale from a dog breeder or buying a cat or kitten for sale from a cat breeder, we encourage people to adopt a dog, adopt a cat, adopt a puppy or adopt a kitten at their local animal shelter, SPCA, humane society or pet rescue group.
