Pets at Our Shelter:

Cities, Towns, and/or Counties We Serve:

We have no limitation on living in this county or surrounding counties to be able to adopt. We will allow any one that is pre approved to adopt our animals, no matter what city or state that they live in. In fact we have adopted out to people as far away and California and Oregon! =-)

About Our Shelter:

We strive to provide the best possible care for all animals brought into the shelter. We do not euthanize for space or length of stay. We treat animals for illness and injury upon intake. All animals are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, dewormed and temperament tested before adoption. Dogs are tested for Heartworm, Lyme and EC and treated before adoption. Cats are tested for Feline Leukemia. When the preparation process is complete, our search for a new, permanent home for the animal begins.

Come Meet our Pets:

We are open for adoptions from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm Tuesday through Saturday. Please plan to arrive prior to 5:30 pm to allow time for viewing, paperwork, etc. We have three play yards and an adoption room so that you may bring any pets you own to meet the new member of your family. The Orange County Humane Society adopts our dogs and cats at the PetSmart store in Central Park, Fredericksburg, every Saturday and Sunday.

Our Adoption Process:

Our adoption fees for non-county residents are $60.00 for dogs and $50.00 for cats. Again, all animals are vaccinated, dewormed and altered before adoption. A pre-adoption questionnaire and adoption contract are required. We accept holds on animals under certain circumstances; please call the shelter and ask for Elizabeth Hamilton. We accept exact change or checks only.

Why should you adopt?

Dog adoption and cat adoption saves lives. Adopt a dog or adopt a cat and you'll have a friend for life! What is the difference between adopting a dog, adopting a cat, adopting a kitten or adopting a puppy versus getting dogs for sale, cats for sale, puppies for sale or kittens for sale from a dog breeder or a cat breeder? When someone is breeding puppies or breeding kittens, they are creating new dogs and cats who need homes. Some people are interested in a very specific breed of dog, cat, puppy or kitten and they think the only way to find that specific breed is to buy a dog for sale or buy a cat for sale from a puppy breeder or a kitten breeder. Yet animal shelters are filled with dogs and cats who must find homes. So rather than buying a dog or puppy for sale from a dog breeder or buying a cat or kitten for sale from a cat breeder, we encourage people to adopt a dog, adopt a cat, adopt a puppy or adopt a kitten at their local animal shelter, SPCA, humane society or pet rescue group.
