Our Adoption Process:

If you are interested in adoption, please click here to fill out an application.

Once you complete and submit the application you will be contacted by an HTHNBR volunteer. They will discuss the adoption process with you, and go over your application. We will then contact your personal and vet references. Once you are approved, an HTHNBR volunteer will contact you to discuss the dogs available for adoption and find candidates appropriate for your situation. We then schedule an adoption to bring 1-3 dogs to your home for you to meet and answer any questions you may have. We ask that all members of the household be home on the day of the adoption, including pets. If any dogs will be frequent visitors we ask that they try to be there as well. We will look to see that the home is safe and point out potential problem areas that you might not be aware of, and will ask you to fix any problems before we will leave a dog with you. Northern Breeds are escape artists, and very curious dogs, and we don't want them getting into something that can harm them, or getting out and running free on the street.

Our adoption fees are:

  • $275 for puppies 6 months and under (with a $150 spay/neuter deposit)
  • $235 for adults
  • $75 for seniors 10 years or older

All foster dogs are spayed or neutered, up to date on vaccinations (DHLPP, rabies, bordatella) heartworm negative, on heartworm, flea and tick prevention, and microchipped.

Why should you adopt?

Dog adoption and cat adoption saves lives. Adopt a dog or adopt a cat and you'll have a friend for life! What is the difference between adopting a dog or puppy versus getting dogs for sale or puppies for sale from a dog breeder? When someone is breeding puppies, they are creating new dogs who need homes. Some people are interested in a very specific breed of dog or puppy and they think the only way to find that specific breed is to buy a dog for sale from a puppy breeder. Yet animal shelters are filled with dogs who must find homes. So rather than buying a dog or puppy for sale from a dog breeder, we encourage people to adopt a dog or adopt a puppy at their local animal shelter, SPCA, humane society or pet rescue group.
