About Our Rescue Group:

The Edgecombe-Nash Humane Society is a non profit volunteer organization, which works to care for and find homes for stray, abandoned, and mistreated animals. We also investigate cruelty cases throughout Edgecombe and Nash Counties. Unfortunately, we do not have a shelter so all of our rescued pets are kept in foster homes and at local boarding facilities. All medical care, food, or any other neccesities for these rescued pets is funded strictly through donations as we do not receive any government, state, city, or county funding. The animals need your help so please consider making a donation, becoming a foster parent, or volunteer your time to walk the dogs or help out at our adoption events. If you have a business, we are in need of locations to place our doggies banks for donations. If you are interested and think that you could assist us with any of these things please call us at 446-1669 and someone will call you back.

Our Adoption Process:

All potential new guardians must complete a questionaire form, allow us to check vet records on their current and past pets, sign an adoption contract, agree to not declaw cats and to keep them inside. Dogs are required to be in a fenced in yard and not on chains. The new guardian must agree to return the pet to us if they are unable to keep it. We do not adopt our dogs to people that plan on using them as working dogs or hunting dogs. The adoption fee is between $55-$175 depending upon what medical attention the animal has received. All of our animals are up to date on shots and most of our pets have been spayed or neutered, however those that are too young at adoption will be required to be spayed or neutered by a certain time frame. Other animals may also have other requirements that must be met prior to adoption.

Why should you adopt?

Dog adoption and cat adoption saves lives. Adopt a dog or adopt a cat and you'll have a friend for life! What is the difference between adopting a dog, adopting a cat, adopting a kitten or adopting a puppy versus getting dogs for sale, cats for sale, puppies for sale or kittens for sale from a dog breeder or a cat breeder? When someone is breeding puppies or breeding kittens, they are creating new dogs and cats who need homes. Some people are interested in a very specific breed of dog, cat, puppy or kitten and they think the only way to find that specific breed is to buy a dog for sale or buy a cat for sale from a puppy breeder or a kitten breeder. Yet animal shelters are filled with dogs and cats who must find homes. So rather than buying a dog or puppy for sale from a dog breeder or buying a cat or kitten for sale from a cat breeder, we encourage people to adopt a dog, adopt a cat, adopt a puppy or adopt a kitten at their local animal shelter, SPCA, humane society or pet rescue group.
