About Our Shelter:

Lewis-Upshur Animal Control Facility

Lewis Upshur Animal Control Facility is Located in Upshur County and is not a Humane Society but an animal welfare organization that serves the needs of two (2) counties. The dogs come into the facility and have a five-day grace period for us to find them a forever home until they are euthanized. If there is a collar with identification on it - we work very hard at finding its owner. We are a rural shelter that has limited means to serve the duty that we are called to do for this area. We are committed to this. We are also a Kill Facility when we get full!!!

Mission Statement
Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday 8:00am to 2:30pm Wednesday 10am to 6 pm and Saturday 7:00am to 12:00pm This site was established with the intent of finding emergency temporary foster homes via rescue groups or individuals for these dogs. This is done in a limited time frame and has nothing to do with the individual dog, but rather where they are, even the most wonderful dogs face death if they are at a shelter that has no room.

Why should you adopt?

Dog adoption and cat adoption saves lives. Adopt a dog or adopt a cat and you'll have a friend for life! What is the difference between adopting a dog, adopting a cat, adopting a kitten or adopting a puppy versus getting dogs for sale, cats for sale, puppies for sale or kittens for sale from a dog breeder or a cat breeder? When someone is breeding puppies or breeding kittens, they are creating new dogs and cats who need homes. Some people are interested in a very specific breed of dog, cat, puppy or kitten and they think the only way to find that specific breed is to buy a dog for sale or buy a cat for sale from a puppy breeder or a kitten breeder. Yet animal shelters are filled with dogs and cats who must find homes. So rather than buying a dog or puppy for sale from a dog breeder or buying a cat or kitten for sale from a cat breeder, we encourage people to adopt a dog, adopt a cat, adopt a puppy or adopt a kitten at their local animal shelter, SPCA, humane society or pet rescue group.
