About Our Shelter
The Humane Society of Northwest Louisiana was established in August of 1997 by volunteers to address the concerns and needs of animals in our area.
We have a permanent facility, located in Shreveport, Louisiana. We ALWAYS have a need for volunteers. We hold adoption events at Dillards in St. Vincent Mall from 12:00 to 4:00 the second Saturday of each month, and at PetSmart on Youree Drive from 11:00-3:00 the fourth Saturday of each month.
Our Adoption Process
Our adoption fee is $100.00 and $50.00 for cats which reimburses us for animal care expenses and medical care. All animals are fully vetted and are current on their shots, and have been spayed or neutered. Those which have not been spayed or neutered will come with a voucher good for $50 towards the cost of spay/neuter surgery - this voucher is accepted by nearly all area veterinarians.
We require that all intact animals be spayed/neutered within 60 days of adoption, and we will check to verify it has been done. You will also be asked to provide the name and phone number of your veterinarian as a reference. You must be 18 years or older to adopt an animal. We reserve the right to deny adoption to any home we deem unsuitable for any reason Dog adoption and cat adoption saves lives. Adopt a dog or adopt a cat and you'll have a friend for life! What is the difference between adopting a dog, adopting a cat, adopting a kitten or adopting a puppy versus getting dogs for sale, cats for sale, puppies for sale or kittens for sale from a dog breeder or a cat breeder? When someone is breeding puppies or breeding kittens, they are creating new dogs and cats who need homes. Some people are interested in a very specific breed of dog, cat, puppy or kitten and they think the only way to find that specific breed is to buy a dog for sale or buy a cat for sale from a puppy breeder or a kitten breeder. Yet animal shelters are filled with dogs and cats who must find homes. So rather than buying a dog or puppy for sale from a dog breeder or buying a cat or kitten for sale from a cat breeder, we encourage people to adopt a dog, adopt a cat, adopt a puppy or adopt a kitten at their local animal shelter, SPCA, humane society or pet rescue group. |
