ADOPT A DALLAS PET
About Our Rescue Group
WELCOME TO ADOPT A DALLAS PET. We are dedicated to helping pets find loving and permanent homes. It is our hope that this will be the last stop in your journey to find a new family member. We are based in Dallas, and accept applications only from the Greater Dallas area.
THE REASON TO ADOPT: The companionship of pets enriches our lives. When you have made the decision to introduce a pet into your life, ADOPT A DALLAS PET encourages you to only adopt from rescue. Every year millions of homeless pets are killed in our Nation's shelters. The actual number estimates range from 3 to 10 million each year, but as far as we are concerned, one single dog or cat is too many. Through accident or intention, more pets are born each year than there are available homes for them. By adopting a homeless pet, you will not only be saving a life, you will be making a difference.
BECOMING A PET GUARDIAN: Deciding to add a pet to your family is a serious undertaking, and the decision should not be made impetuously. Most pets can be with you 10 to 20 years depending on the breed and health of the pet. ADOPT A DALLAS PET strongly encourages you to consider if such a long term commitment is right for you at this time. If so, we hope that we can assist you in finding a suitable match. If not, there will certainly be a better time in the future for you to share your life with a companion animal.
IF YOU NEED TO SURRENDER YOUR PET: If you find you can no longer keep your pet, please email us to have our re-homing guide entitled Re-homing Your Pet: Finding a Shelter, Rescue Group, or the Perfect Family sent to you as a PDF.
We're sorry, but we do not have a shelter, and at this time we are unable to accept any more surrendered animals.
CONTACTING ADOPT A DALLAS PET: If you are interested in one of our pets, we prefer that you contact us through email and request an application. Do to the large number of inquiries we receive, we find that this is much easier for us.
We make every effort to reply to each email in a timely manner. If you have not heard from us in a couple of days, please assume that we did not receive your message for one reason or another, and try again.

FAQ's about adopting from ADOPT A DALLAS PET
How do I know if I am ready to adopt a new dog or cat? This is an important question to ask your self. Becoming an animal guardian requires a long-term financial and time commitment. Caring for a pet is almost like caring for a child. You must attend to their feeding, grooming, exercise, and training. If you are prepared for such a commitment, introducing a pet into your life can be a rewarding experience. However, if you feel that you are unable to commit to these responsibilities right now, there will certainly be a better time in the future for you to share your life with a companion animal.
How do I meet the pets I’ve seen online? We do not have a shelter, and all of our pets are in foster care. Once you have submitted an application, we can schedule an appointment for you to meet them.
Once I’ve met a pet I like, can I adopt him right away? We are very pleased that you have found a pet that in which you are interested. However, we do not do on-the-spot adoptions. This practice helps us, you, and the pet, by allowing everyone involved time to think about such a long-term commitment. It would be wrong to make an emotional decision in just a few minutes that would affect the lives of you, your family, and a pet for years to come.
What is the adoption process? Once you have found a dog or cat that you like, you will need to fill out an application, provide a personal reference, and a vet reference. We will review the application, call your existing vet if you have one, and then schedule an appointment with you to do a home check.
Why do I have to do all this paperwork, and why do you do a home check? Once we have accepted an animal into our program, we are obligated to make sure that his next home is a permanent, loving, and responsible one. The application process allows us to learn more about you, and the home environment that you will provide a new companion animal. Our screening procedures are not meant to be intrusive, but let’s face it, not everyone is honest all the time. Screening applicants gives us the opportunity to find responsible and loving homes for the animals in our charge, while avoiding those that may be careless, neglectful, or abusive.
How much are your adoption fees? We request a minimum donation adoption fee with each pet. We ask for a minimum donation because—to be quite honest—caring for homeless pets is an expensive endeavor. Therefore, if you can help us to continue to help homeless pets by making a generous donation above the minimum amount required, we would be very grateful.
The minimum donation fee amounts are:
Dogs under 45 lbs. - $200.
Dogs over 46 lbs. - $150.
Cats - $85.
I’ve taken in free pets in the past. Why do your adoption fees seem so high? Your adoption fee covers a portion of the fees incurred while we cared for your new pet, including the sterilization and vaccination fees.
How long does the adoption process take? Most adoptions take about a week from start to finish.
What if I get home with the pet and my other pets won’t accept him or her, or I’ve changed my mind, lost my job, found out I’m allergic, or have other problems which affect my ability to keep the pet I’ve adopted? When you adopt a pet from ADOPT A DALLAS PET, you will sign an agreement stating that should you no longer be able to care for your pet, that it should be returned to us.
Dog adoption and cat
adoption saves lives. Adopt
a dog or adopt a cat and you'll
have a friend for life! What is the difference between adopting a dog, adopting
a cat, adopting a kitten or adopting a puppy versus getting dogs for sale, cats
for sale, puppies for sale or kittens for sale from a dog breeder or a cat breeder?
When someone is breeding puppies or breeding kittens, they are creating new dogs
and cats who need homes. Some people are interested in a very specific breed of
dog, cat, puppy or kitten and they think the only way to find that specific breed
is to buy a dog for sale or buy a cat for sale from a puppy breeder or a kitten
breeder. Yet animal shelters are filled with dogs and cats who must find homes.
So rather than buying a dog or puppy for sale from a dog breeder or buying a cat
or kitten for sale from a cat breeder, we encourage people to adopt a dog, adopt
a cat, adopt a puppy or adopt a kitten at their local animal shelter, SPCA, humane
society or pet rescue group.
