Areas Jefferson County Animal Control serves

If you would like to adopt an animal and are coming from a long distance we will hold it until you get here but otherwise we can not hold animals for days. It is best to call and let the facility know that you are on your way and what time they can expect you. Please email
jeffcoac@att.net , for more info!!

Our website is updated as often as possible. If you are looking for something special please call and ask we may have just what you are looking for and haven't put the picture up yet.

We are finding many owner surrenders are because people can't not afford to feed these animals anymore or decided they don't want to take the time for them. There is absolutely nothing wrong with these animals. We do not adopt out aggressive animals. When you adopt an animal be sure you can make a committment to it for it's lifetime.

Being put in an Animal Control is very tramatic for these animals. Most are so scared they just shake for the first 24 hrs.

Jefferson County Animal Control needs your help!! Our facility has received more and more animals each year. In the past 12 months more than 3000 dogs, cats, and other animals have arrived at this facility. Most of these animals are young, healthy, friendly pets waiting for a new home.

Please take a look at our adoptable pets. If you see an animal you are interested in PLEASE DO NOT WAIT TO CALL. Our facility fills up very fast and we can not keep them very long. If you wait a day or two while you are thinking about the animal, it may be gone. Let us know that you are considering the animal so we try and keep it alittle longer. If you have lost your pet, please do not hesitate to come into the facility and/or call to see if your pet may be there. It's always a good idea to check everyday if possible.

About Jefferson County Animal Control

The Jefferson County Animal Control is a non-profit organization that is a county funded shelter.

We are the homes for the animals who were simply in the wrong place at the wrong time or just surrendered by their owners. Some didn't find their way home and were without an I.D tag to reunite them with their owners.

We get so many new animals in our shelter every day, they all have a very limited time to be adopted. The shelter can't hold animals until we find the perfect home, there are simply too many arriving on a daily basis. All these animals need to move out as quickly as they come in. Many people are bringing litters of animals in and we do not have the space we desperately need for them to have a chance.

Support adoption and rescue. Why go to a dog breeder, cat breeder or pet store to buy a dog or buy a cat when you can adopt?

Why should you adopt?

Dog adoption and cat adoption saves lives. Adopt a dog or adopt a cat and you'll have a friend for life.

What is the difference between adopting a dog, adopting a cat, adopting a kitten or adopting a puppy versus getting dogs for sale, cats for sale, puppies for sale or kittens for sale from a dog breeder or a cat breeder?

When someone is breeding puppies or breeding kittens, they are creating new dogs and cats who need homes. Some people are interested in a very specific breed of dog, cat, puppy or kitten and they think the only way to find that specific breed is to buy a dog for sale or buy a cat for sale from a puppy breeder or a kitten breeder. Yet animal shelters are filled with dogs and cats who must find homes.

So rather than buying a dog or puppy for sale from a dog breeder or buying a cat or kitten for sale from a cat breeder, we encourage people to adopt a dog, adopt a cat, adopt a puppy or adopt a kitten at their local animal shelter, SPCA, humane society or pet rescue group.
