Doberman Rescue, Inc.'s adoption process

Additional adoption info

All applicants MUST first complete an adoption application, agree to a home visit, and comply with our adoption contract that we strongly enforce. We want to make sure each adoption is a positive match. Adopters are also required to keep in touch with DRI post adoption for the life of the dog. Our standard adoption fee for an adult Purebred Doberman is $250. Special Needs, Seniors, Dobe/Mixes, and "other" Breeds are usually less. Purebred Doberman Puppies 1 year and under are $300. Our adoption fee helps our expenses we have such as spaying/neutering, HW testing, vaccinations, worming if needed, transportation, food, pull fees from shelters, etc, etc. Often times the adoption fee only covers a mere portion of our expenses.

***After completing an adoption application and submitting it please contact us via email or phone to make sure we have recieved it properly if you have not heard from us within 24 hrs.

If the adoption does not work out for any reason, the adoptive home is required to contact Doberman Rescue Inc. and return the Doberman to DRI! NO EXCEPTIONS!

About Doberman Rescue, Inc.

Doberman Rescue Inc. (D.R.I.) is a nonprofit organization whose primary goal is to rescue abused, abandoned and unwanted Dobermans and place them in suitable, safe, and loving homes. We provide Doberman adoption in Sewickley, PA (near Pittsburgh). We rescue primarily Pure-Bred Doberman Pinschers but, in urgent circumstances we help Dobe/Mixes and "other" Breeds.

Most of the Dobermans we rescue come from shelters or animal control facilities. A smaller percentage are turned over to us by owners who for a variety of reasons, are no longer able or willing to care for them. Some come to us because of the owner's death, divorce, loss of job and/or home, and for many other reasons which are NOT the fault of the dog. DRI WILL NOT take in ANY human aggressive dogs into our program under any circumstance. We have a very strict policy regarding this!!!

All rescued Dobermans are up to date on vaccinations, heartworm tested, spayed/neutered, and evaluated to the best of our ability before placement. We attempt to evaluate their temperaments and work on basic obedience and manners. We attempt to place each Doberman into the most well suited home based on the individual dog. We consider the dog's reaction to other dogs, cats, and children.
We do not require a fenced yard but its is very much preferred for not only the dogs exercise but also for safety reasons.

We strongly recommend that new owners use a monthly wormer that includes heartworm protection. We have had rescue dogs that were heartworm positive and it is very serious and dangerous also treatment is very expensive.

DRI and its volunteers are very compassionate about our dogs and our rescue. This is our life! We take adoptions very seriously and expect all prospective adopters to do the same. Our only *payment* is knowing we helped a homeless Doberman find its forever home. We want our dogs to go to only the best homes where they will be loved and well taken care of FOREVER. Please consider your present and future family plans before even considering adoption.

We are a Doberman Pinscher Rescue Organization. We are a nonprofit group that relies solely on donations and fund-raising activities for its income.

Doberman Rescue, Inc.'s adopted pets

Adopt a Pet is the easiest way for you to search for a new pet in Sewickley, PA.

Support adoption and rescue. Why go to a dog breeder, cat breeder or pet store to buy a dog or buy a cat when you can adopt?

Why should you adopt?

Dog adoption and cat adoption saves lives. Adopt a dog or adopt a cat and you'll have a friend for life.

What is the difference between adopting a dog, adopting a cat, adopting a kitten or adopting a puppy versus getting dogs for sale, cats for sale, puppies for sale or kittens for sale from a dog breeder or a cat breeder?

When someone is breeding puppies or breeding kittens, they are creating new dogs and cats who need homes. Some people are interested in a very specific breed of dog, cat, puppy or kitten and they think the only way to find that specific breed is to buy a dog for sale or buy a cat for sale from a puppy breeder or a kitten breeder. Yet animal shelters are filled with dogs and cats who must find homes.

So rather than buying a dog or puppy for sale from a dog breeder or buying a cat or kitten for sale from a cat breeder, we encourage people to adopt a dog, adopt a cat, adopt a puppy or adopt a kitten at their local animal shelter, SPCA, humane society or pet rescue group.
