Pets at Our Shelter:

Cities, Towns, and/or Counties We Serve:

PC Pound Puppies is made up of a small group of volunteers in Southwestern Indiana who work with Posey County Animal Control and the City of Mt. Vernon Animal Control to find homes for dogs after their 10-day holding period is over. Our dogs are typically picked up as strays by Animal Control officers.

About Our Shelter:

We adopt to responsible, qualified homes locally or outside the area.

Email us at pc_poundpuppies@yahoo.com or give us a call at 812-985-3916 (Brenda) or 812-453-7150 (Kim). We respond to adoption applications at our earliest opportunity, but please be patient with us as we work full-time jobs and perform this service as volunteers. We do our best to return messages and schedule adoption interviews within a couple of days of receiving your application.

Come Meet our Pets:

Please have a look at our available pups. If you see one you are interested in, contact us to set an appointment OR visit us at the Pet Food Center North on First Avenue in Evansville on Sunday between 11am and 4pm! Our shelter is a privately-owned kennel, therefore it is not open to the public. Viewing of dogs is by appointment only.

Our Adoption Process:

Our adoption process consists of an adoption application followed by an interview. Upon arriving at the shelter, each dog receives a Bordetella shot, DHPPC vaccination and worming. At the veterinarian's office, our dogs receive a rabies vaccination, a spay or neuter surgery, and are tested for heartworm. If a dog tests positive, we treat the dog and then retest to confirm that the treatment was successful. Additionally, our dogs are microchipped before going home with their new family. Adoption fees are $85 and help to cover the cost of vetting.

Why should you adopt?

Dog adoption and cat adoption saves lives. Adopt a dog or adopt a cat and you'll have a friend for life! What is the difference between adopting a dog or puppy versus getting dogs for sale or puppies for sale from a dog breeder? When someone is breeding puppies, they are creating new dogs who need homes. Some people are interested in a very specific breed of dog or puppy and they think the only way to find that specific breed is to buy a dog for sale from a puppy breeder. Yet animal shelters are filled with dogs who must find homes. So rather than buying a dog or puppy for sale from a dog breeder, we encourage people to adopt a dog or adopt a puppy at their local animal shelter, SPCA, humane society or pet rescue group.
