About Our Rescue Group:

The Humane Society of West Louisiana was founded in August of 1998. We are a small group of volunteers that rescue abandoned, abused or neglected animals. We provide a safe environment for the animals and get them medical care. The animals are evaluated for their health and their temperment, and then put in either foster homes or our adoption center until they are adopted. Our goal is to end the cycle of pet overpopulation through spaying and neutering; to educate the public about pet ownership responsibility; and to end animal abuse through education. Remember, there is no excuse for abuse!

Come Meet our Pets:

You can come meet some of our dogs and puppies at the Petsmart in Alexandria, LA each Saturday from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. Kittens and cats can also be viewed and adopted at the PetSmart in Alexandria, LA.

Our Adoption Process:

Adoption fee is $80. That fee covers all medical costs of spay/neuter and vaccinations. Kitten, cat, puppy, or dog over 5 months of age do not leave our adoption center until they are spayed and neutered. There are some restrictions such as any dog that will be less than 15 pounds when full grown cannot be adopted if there are children 5 and under in the home. You must also have a fenced in yard and vet reference.

Why should you adopt?

Dog adoption and cat adoption saves lives. Adopt a dog or adopt a cat and you'll have a friend for life! What is the difference between adopting a dog, adopting a cat, adopting a kitten or adopting a puppy versus getting dogs for sale, cats for sale, puppies for sale or kittens for sale from a dog breeder or a cat breeder? When someone is breeding puppies or breeding kittens, they are creating new dogs and cats who need homes. Some people are interested in a very specific breed of dog, cat, puppy or kitten and they think the only way to find that specific breed is to buy a dog for sale or buy a cat for sale from a puppy breeder or a kitten breeder. Yet animal shelters are filled with dogs and cats who must find homes. So rather than buying a dog or puppy for sale from a dog breeder or buying a cat or kitten for sale from a cat breeder, we encourage people to adopt a dog, adopt a cat, adopt a puppy or adopt a kitten at their local animal shelter, SPCA, humane society or pet rescue group.
