About Our Shelter:

We are the Animal Control Facility for Hancock County, Indiana. We work to serve the citizens of our county as well as the animals. We are here to educate the public and help with animal issues as we can limited by laws or ordinances, and ability.
Our goal is to reduce the unwanted pets in our county by educating the citizens about the importance of spaying and neutering pets, and proper care and vaccinations.
We work with rescue groups and individuals to help place the animals in our care.

Our Adoption Process:

We currently charge a $35 adoption fee. This Fee covers first dose vaccine ( 4 way feline or 5 way canine )Bordetella, flea treatment, and A Microchip!
We do require all animals to be Spayed or Neutered and vaccinated for Rabies. We have six local veterinarians that honor a reduced cost plan. We can only accept money orders, checks and credit cards during normal city hours by phone to city hall.

These fees are prepaid at the time of adoption to one of the participating veterianaians and does not go to us, unless we have already paid for the Spay/Neuter and Rabies vaccination at our own cost.

Our funds are limited. We do have an Enrichment Fund for donations. We use this money to help provide medical treatment to our animals as well as flea prevention and thier first 5 way vaccines, beds, food and more. Any and all donations are greatly appreciated and needed.

When someone is breeding puppies or breeding kittens, they are creating new dogs and cats who need homes. Some people are interested in a very specific breed of dog, cat, puppy or kitten and they think the only way to find that specific breed is to buy a dog for sale or buy a cat for sale from a puppy breeder or a kitten breeder. Yet animal shelters are filled with dogs and cats who must find homes. So rather than buying a dog or puppy for sale from a dog breeder or buying a cat or kitten for sale from a cat breeder, we encourage people to adopt a dog, adopt a cat, adopt a puppy or adopt a kitten at their local animal shelter, SPCA, humane society or pet rescue group.
