Cities, Towns, and/or Counties We Serve:

REGION: We are active all of the San Francisco Bay Area, and Northern California, East to the Sacramento Valley. Find a city near you at our web site.

MORE OPPORTUNITIES TO SEE GREYHOUNDS: We offer the public 10-12 events each month as opportunities for you to see and pet an ex-racer up close, and talk to knowledgable owners who can answer your questions.

About Our Rescue Group:

ABOUT US: Golden State Greyhoud Adoption is a large and well-organized based adoption-placement organization. We are all-volunteers and are based in the San Francisco Bay Area. Though based locally we actively place dogs throughout Northern California and the Central Valley. In 2007 we placed 140 dogs.

MISSION: It is our passion to educate the public on the plight of the retired-racing greyhound, in order to place as many of these wonderful pets into qualified, loving permanent homes. vets, and of course our Annual Picnic

OUR DOGS: The majority of our dogs come from Colorado. We fly dogs in to SFO almost every week because we believe that it is easier on the dogs, and immediatly place them in either an experienced foster home, or with their new family. Our process focuses first, on what we think is best for the health and well-being of the dogs.

OUR ADOPTERS: Following adoption our organization next focuses on supporting and developing a spirit of community with our family of adopters. Each knows that that there are phone numbers that they can call day or night, and get the answer and support they need.

COMMUNITY: As a larger adoption community It is our committment to the dog and their new family to be a supportive and available as long as they wish. Examples of ways we accomplish this are: a private Yahoo group where people swap informmation and stores, group walks, photo events, trading dog-sitting, recommended vets and of course our Annual Picnic each September.

GETTING THE WORD OUT: We meet people through our "Meet and Greets" at pet stores, farmers markets, and other events. We also offer potential adopters - an information packed web site to visit: www.GoldenGreyhounds.Com as a good starting point for researching greyhounds.

WHY WE'RE DIFFERENT: We are proud to offer more opportunities for people to meet our greyhounds in public than does any other adoption group in all of California.

WHAT TO EXPECT: All of our 10-12 Meet and Greets, are offered every month, all year long, Each gives anyone interested in learning more about greyhounds the opportunity to do so and to ask as many questions they might have. We like to staff each event with both "new" adopters and long-time greyhound parents so you can get a fuller ifea of what life with a greyhound is like. Don't be surprised to find we can answer just about any question that you might have about the world's fastest couch-potato.

Our Adoption Process:

INTRODUCTION: Adopting a greyhound, like any pet, is a serious responsibility requiring a long-term commitment. It is our goal in this program to ensure that each guardian understands and has prepared to provide for the physical, emotional/psychological and financial needs of each greyhound in its new adopted home. We feel that each greyhound deserves this.

ADOPTION OVERVIEW: GSGA does not adopt dogs,”on-the-spot”. Instead, we believe it is our deliberate and conscientious approach that results in so many successful permanent placements. The actual adoption process is not complicated.

Step 1) The first step is to fill out an Adoption Application at(http://www.GoldenGreyhounds.com/adopt/index.htm.) which gives the adoption coordinator an idea of your lifestyle and accommodations for the dog.

Step 2) Once the questionnaire is processed the adoption coordinator will contact you to arrange a home visit to insure the dog's new environment will be safe and secure.

Step 3) Once your application has been approved we will do our best to select and place a greyhound in your home that best matches your lifestyle and profile. The adoption takes place in one of two sites (Pacifica or Walnut Creek) and you will bring your new greyhound home the same day.

*Visit: www.GoldenGreyhounds.com/adopt/index.htm for a full description of what is included in the adoption process.

Why should you adopt?

Dog adoption and cat adoption saves lives. Adopt a dog or adopt a cat and you'll have a friend for life! What is the difference between adopting a dog or puppy versus getting dogs for sale or puppies for sale from a dog breeder? When someone is breeding puppies, they are creating new dogs who need homes. Some people are interested in a very specific breed of dog or puppy and they think the only way to find that specific breed is to buy a dog for sale from a puppy breeder. Yet animal shelters are filled with dogs who must find homes. So rather than buying a dog or puppy for sale from a dog breeder, we encourage people to adopt a dog or adopt a puppy at their local animal shelter, SPCA, humane society or pet rescue group.
