Warren County

We adopt animals to any area in the US as long as you are willing to travel to pick up your pet. If you do not live in Virginia, it is state law that the pet must be spayed or neutered before it leaves the state.

About Our Shelter:

We are a non-profit organization providing services to the Warren County area. The Society was incorporated April 1, 1947 by Julia Wagner to provide shelter, food, and care to the lost, stray, and abandoned animals of this area. We have also provided shelter for abused equines, pot-bellied pigs, donkeys, horses and goats.

We are able to provide services to the citizens of Warren County through membership dues, donations, fundraising actvities, a small stipend from the Julia Wagner Trust, and the contract with the Warren County government. A small amount of operating income is derived from the loose change placed in "dog banks" located in over 30 local business establishments.

Our Adoption Process:

We require that you must meet your new pet first to see if you bond. If you feel you are a good match, we require a pre-adoption application which requires 3 personal references and one vet reference. Once approved, we have you come in to fill out an adoption contract , schedule a vet appointment, and make arrangements for your new family member to go home.

Adoption fees are as follows: Dogs, $145, includes spay/neuter, Rabies, Distemper and Bordetella vaccinations, Deworming, Microchip with registration, and flea/tick treatment. Cats, $35, includes spay/neuter, vaccinations, deworming, Microchip with registration, and flea/tick treatment. Horses, $400.

Why should you adopt?

Dog adoption and cat adoption saves lives. Adopt a dog or adopt a cat and you'll have a friend for life! What is the difference between adopting a dog, adopting a cat, adopting a kitten or adopting a puppy versus getting dogs for sale, cats for sale, puppies for sale or kittens for sale from a dog breeder or a cat breeder? When someone is breeding puppies or breeding kittens, they are creating new dogs and cats who need homes. Some people are interested in a very specific breed of dog, cat, puppy or kitten and they think the only way to find that specific breed is to buy a dog for sale or buy a cat for sale from a puppy breeder or a kitten breeder. Yet animal shelters are filled with dogs and cats who must find homes. So rather than buying a dog or puppy for sale from a dog breeder or buying a cat or kitten for sale from a cat breeder, we encourage people to adopt a dog, adopt a cat, adopt a puppy or adopt a kitten at their local animal shelter, SPCA, humane society or pet rescue group.
