Pets at Our Shelter:

Cities, Towns, and/or Counties We Serve:

We take in owner-surrenders from the surrounding area as well as animals from out of state shelters as part of our Shelter Outreach program.

Adoptions of our pets are available to good homes everywhere.

About Our Shelter:

The Humane Society of Atlantic County was established as an Animal Shelter in 1968. Our mission is to curb pet over-population through our clinic’s spay and neuter programs, increase the number of animals adopted into loving homes through our shelter, provide a safe and caring environment for animals that are lost or strayed and to serve as a resource for humane animal education within our community. Our organization strives to improve and protect the lives of companion animals by promoting healthy relationships between pets and people.

Our successful adoption programs give us the ability to open our doors to thousands of animals facing euthanasia due to overcrowding or lack of resources in other shelters all over the United States. Our Shelter Outreach Program also enables us to offer a greater variety of animals to our adoption clients. In addition to partnering with many regional animal welfare agencies, we are part of the national Rescue Waggin’® program sponsored by PetSmart Charities.

The Humane Society of Atlantic County is a private, non-profit organization that relies on donations from our generous supporters. We are not operated or funded by any national humane groups or governmental agencies and must rely on contributions to bring our services to the community.

Come Meet our Pets:

We are open from 11am - 3pm Tuesday through Sunday.

Our Adoption Process:

If you are interested in adopting from us, there are a few things you should know.

If you currently have an animal at home, it is strongly recommended that you bring your pet in to meet with the animal you are planning to adopt and will be a requirement for most adoptions done here at our facility. It is very stressful for humans and pets when things don't work out after the new pet has arrived.

In order for us to be able to adopt an animal to you, we will need to have you bring a valid state-issued photo I.D. and documentation about your residence. If you rent, we must see a lease agreement showing that pets are allowed on the property. If you own your home, we must see proof of ownership such as a tax bill, deed, or mortgage coupon.

Cats and kittens are $70.
Dogs over 6 months old are $120.
Puppies under 6 months old are $200.

We accept cash and credit cards.

Why should you adopt?

Dog adoption and cat adoption saves lives. Adopt a dog or adopt a cat and you'll have a friend for life! What is the difference between adopting a dog, adopting a cat, adopting a kitten or adopting a puppy versus getting dogs for sale, cats for sale, puppies for sale or kittens for sale from a dog breeder or a cat breeder? When someone is breeding puppies or breeding kittens, they are creating new dogs and cats who need homes. Some people are interested in a very specific breed of dog, cat, puppy or kitten and they think the only way to find that specific breed is to buy a dog for sale or buy a cat for sale from a puppy breeder or a kitten breeder. Yet animal shelters are filled with dogs and cats who must find homes. So rather than buying a dog or puppy for sale from a dog breeder or buying a cat or kitten for sale from a cat breeder, we encourage people to adopt a dog, adopt a cat, adopt a puppy or adopt a kitten at their local animal shelter, SPCA, humane society or pet rescue group.
