Additional adoption info

1. You must be 21 years old to apply to adopt.
2. Children in the home must be at least 6 years of age, and you must live in the DFW Metroplex.
3. The person applying must be the person who will own and care for the dog.
4. You cannot apply for someone else, or for a dog to give as a gift.
5. Our adoption fees range from $250 - $450.
After submitting an application for the dog you would like to adopt, please come out to one of our “Tzu Reviews” at a noted PetSmart or other specified location. You can find times and locations on our website.
Once we have met with you, reviewed your application, along with vet records on any prior dogs, and helped you select the dog most suitable for your family, we will schedule a time for one of our volunteers to come to your home for a home visit. During this home visit our volunteer will look around your house/apartment and yard, for any potential hazards (such as poisonous house plants, gaps in fences, etc.) that may need to be corrected before you receive your new family member.

About DFW Tzus and More Rescue

DFW Tzus & More Rescue is a charitable, 501(c)3 nonprofit rescue and foster care organization based in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex whose ultimate mission and duty is to match homeless Shih Tzu, Lhasa Apsos, and their furry friends with their ideal, loving, forever home, and give these homeless animals a second chance at a wonderful, new life that they so richly deserve. By working closely with local animal shelters, we hope to prevent the senseless euthanasia of these unfortunate stray or abandoned pets, which have ended up in shelters through no fault of their own.
After providing incoming dogs with immediate medical care, vaccinations, heartworm testing, and spay/neuter, rescued dogs are brought into temporary foster care where they receive the same love and attention as a cherished family pet. Through temperament evaluation, and behavioral modification as needed, we endeavor to insure that each homeless dog finds a loving family and will "come home to stay."
We educate the public and potential adopters about spay/neuter, vaccinations, heartworm preventatives, regular vet care, good nutrition, regular grooming, microchipping, and just as importantly, "adopting" rather than purchasing from a breeder. By continuing to educate, and constantly searching for caring foster homes, the volunteers of DFW Tzus & More Rescue hope to realize our dream of a day when we are able to rescue and rehome every Shih Tzu, Lhasa Apso, and all their other small, furry friends in DFW Metroplex shelters.

Support adoption and rescue. Why go to a dog breeder, cat breeder or pet store to buy a dog or buy a cat when you can adopt?

Why should you adopt?

Dog adoption and cat adoption saves lives. Adopt a dog or adopt a cat and you'll have a friend for life.

What is the difference between adopting a dog, adopting a cat, adopting a kitten or adopting a puppy versus getting dogs for sale, cats for sale, puppies for sale or kittens for sale from a dog breeder or a cat breeder?

When someone is breeding puppies or breeding kittens, they are creating new dogs and cats who need homes. Some people are interested in a very specific breed of dog, cat, puppy or kitten and they think the only way to find that specific breed is to buy a dog for sale or buy a cat for sale from a puppy breeder or a kitten breeder. Yet animal shelters are filled with dogs and cats who must find homes.

So rather than buying a dog or puppy for sale from a dog breeder or buying a cat or kitten for sale from a cat breeder, we encourage people to adopt a dog, adopt a cat, adopt a puppy or adopt a kitten at their local animal shelter, SPCA, humane society or pet rescue group.
