About Our Rescue Group:

My name is Jill and I am the President of Homeless Animal Rescue Team. HART of IL is a licensed rescue. I have been doing rescue for 7 years now. It is the hardest job I will ever love. The reason I do what I do is to save the animals in the high kill shelters in the Southern states that wouldn't have a chance if it wasn't for out of state rescues like ours. I also do what I do to educate the public about the proper care of animals and to be the voice for those that are not being taken care of. We are foster home based so we can only save as many as we have room for in our dedicated foster homes so if you can't adopt please consider fostering a dog or puppy for us.

Come Meet our Pets:

We are not a shelter. We are a group of concerned pet owners that came together to rescue dogs from municipal kill shelters in rural counties. HART is a licensed rescue that is a Non-Profit 501(c)3 group and is run by an all volunteer staff.
Once we rescue a dog from the kill facility, it is placed in the care of one of our loving foster homes in Northeastern Illinois.
To expedite your request, please visit our website at http://www.hartofil.com/foster-a-dog.php to start the online foster process and application. Once your application is reviewed, we will put you in contact with the dog's foster home to set up a time to meet the pooch of your choice!

You may not get an immediate response as we get tied up when saving dogs from euthanasia, often just days or hours before they are scheduled to be put to sleep. This takes a lot of coordination when done from out of state. Due to the high volume of inquiries we receive, It is not unusual for us to take several days to respond. Its not that we do not appreciate you because we LOVE our adopters! Things just take longer for all volunteer organizations so we appreciate your patience and understanding. Feel free to email us again if you feel we may have overlooked your inquiry or application and you are committed to adopting a rescue dog for the rest of its life.
Thank you for considering adoption!

Why should you adopt?

Dog adoption and cat adoption saves lives. Adopt a dog or adopt a cat and you'll have a friend for life! What is the difference between adopting a dog, adopting a cat, adopting a kitten or adopting a puppy versus getting dogs for sale, cats for sale, puppies for sale or kittens for sale from a dog breeder or a cat breeder? When someone is breeding puppies or breeding kittens, they are creating new dogs and cats who need homes. Some people are interested in a very specific breed of dog, cat, puppy or kitten and they think the only way to find that specific breed is to buy a dog for sale or buy a cat for sale from a puppy breeder or a kitten breeder. Yet animal shelters are filled with dogs and cats who must find homes. So rather than buying a dog or puppy for sale from a dog breeder or buying a cat or kitten for sale from a cat breeder, we encourage people to adopt a dog, adopt a cat, adopt a puppy or adopt a kitten at their local animal shelter, SPCA, humane society or pet rescue group.
