Cities, Towns, and/or Counties We Serve:

PLAR is a no-kill facility fostering kindness and sentiment to the southwestern Virginia area and its surrounding counties.

About Our Rescue Group:

Susan Graf is the founder and president of PLAR. Throughout her life she has always felt the need to care for people as well as animals. The start up of a "rescue" has been Susan's dream for many years. With lots of love and compassion, Susan has experienced the physical, financial, and emotional realities that are involved with rescue animals. Over the years, she has mothered many orphan kittens, nursed back to health animals near death, and has even had to say her goodbyes! Her dedication to the animals is unbelievable. No matter where she is in her very busy life, she takes the appropriate measures to rescue anything in need. She is knowledgable and capable of caring for both small and large animals. Over the past years Susan has networked with others up and down the east coast in different rescue situations to find homes for the animals. Her talent to care for and rehabilitate an ill/injured or emotionally damaged animal is incredible. Susan's husband, two sons and daughter are all an active part of the rescue. The animals currently housed by the rescue are on the 40 acre horse farm owned by Susan's parents, or in her house. Our goal is to build our own barn, kennel, and cattery for our animals.

Why should you adopt?

Dog adoption and cat adoption saves lives. Adopt a dog or adopt a cat and you'll have a friend for life! What is the difference between adopting a dog, adopting a cat, adopting a kitten or adopting a puppy versus getting dogs for sale, cats for sale, puppies for sale or kittens for sale from a dog breeder or a cat breeder? When someone is breeding puppies or breeding kittens, they are creating new dogs and cats who need homes. Some people are interested in a very specific breed of dog, cat, puppy or kitten and they think the only way to find that specific breed is to buy a dog for sale or buy a cat for sale from a puppy breeder or a kitten breeder. Yet animal shelters are filled with dogs and cats who must find homes. So rather than buying a dog or puppy for sale from a dog breeder or buying a cat or kitten for sale from a cat breeder, we encourage people to adopt a dog, adopt a cat, adopt a puppy or adopt a kitten at their local animal shelter, SPCA, humane society or pet rescue group.
