Northwest New Jersey and beyond.

About Our Rescue Group:

The Pet Adoption League is a non-profit, completely volunteer animal rescue organization that was established December 1937 and incorporated January 1958. PAL services the Northwest NJ area and beyond. We are not a shelter, but a no-kill rescue group. We always have a variety of dogs and cats in our care, most of which were rescued from pounds. We also assist pet owners in finding homes for pets they can no longer keep. We hold weekly pet adoptions at local establishments and we find homes for all our animals - no matter how long it takes!

Because we are shelter-less, our dogs and cats are boarded at local kennel facilities and foster homes. Our dogs receive all the necessary vaccinations (rabies, distemper, and bordatella), are heartworm tested, de-wormed, and spayed/neutered. Our cats too receive all their necessary vaccinations, are tested for feline leukemia and feline aids, and are spayed/neutered. We ask for a modest donation to adopt our dogs and cats, but that doesn’t even come close to offsetting our veterinary and kennel costs to care for the animals. We also guarantee to take back any adoption that does not work out.

PAL is run completely by volunteers; all working together in pursuit of one goal - animal rescue

Come Meet our Pets:

Some of our cats are located at the PetSmart in Mount Olive, NJ, and the rest are in foster care. We hold cat adotions at this PetSmart every Saturday from 12 - 3/4 pm. Our dog adoptions take place in various places and visiting our website ( will tell you exactly where and when our dog adoptions are going to take place.

Our Adoption Process:

$100 adoption fee for a cat. $200 adoption fee for a dog. We require a pre-adopt be filled out by the potential adoptor that requires the name of a vet and two non-family references.

Why should you adopt?

Dog adoption and cat adoption saves lives. Adopt a dog or adopt a cat and you'll have a friend for life! What is the difference between adopting a dog, adopting a cat, adopting a kitten or adopting a puppy versus getting dogs for sale, cats for sale, puppies for sale or kittens for sale from a dog breeder or a cat breeder? When someone is breeding puppies or breeding kittens, they are creating new dogs and cats who need homes. Some people are interested in a very specific breed of dog, cat, puppy or kitten and they think the only way to find that specific breed is to buy a dog for sale or buy a cat for sale from a puppy breeder or a kitten breeder. Yet animal shelters are filled with dogs and cats who must find homes. So rather than buying a dog or puppy for sale from a dog breeder or buying a cat or kitten for sale from a cat breeder, we encourage people to adopt a dog, adopt a cat, adopt a puppy or adopt a kitten at their local animal shelter, SPCA, humane society or pet rescue group.
