About Our Shelter:

The Animal Protective League is dedicated to caring for ill, injured and abused homeless animals and coordinating the adoption of those animals by responsible pet owners; it further is committed to ending companion animal overpopulation by offering high quality, low-cost spay/neuter services.

Come Meet our Pets:

Pets are available for adoption 7 days a week from 12:00 to 5:00 at 1001 Taintor Road, Springfield, IL. We are behind the Illinois State Fairgrounds across from Gate 6.

Our Adoption Process:

APL strives to match animals with carefully screened, loving, permanent owners. Nearly 2000 deserving dogs and cats were placed in their forever homes in 2007. APL also has an active group of foster families who provide interim homes until space is available at our shelter. An application must be approved to finalize an adoption.

Adoption Fees:
Dog: $99.00
Puppy under 4 months: $90.00
Cats/Kittens $50.00 or two adopted as a pair for $65.00

All animals are spayed or neutered and are up to date on vaccinations.

Spay/Neuter Fees:
Dogs $55.00
Female Cats $45
Male Cats $35

All animals are required to have a rabies shot at the time of surgery. If your pet has not been vaccinated we will vaccinate at the time of surgery for $6.00

Why should you adopt?

Dog adoption and cat adoption saves lives. Adopt a dog or adopt a cat and you'll have a friend for life! What is the difference between adopting a dog, adopting a cat, adopting a kitten or adopting a puppy versus getting dogs for sale, cats for sale, puppies for sale or kittens for sale from a dog breeder or a cat breeder? When someone is breeding puppies or breeding kittens, they are creating new dogs and cats who need homes. Some people are interested in a very specific breed of dog, cat, puppy or kitten and they think the only way to find that specific breed is to buy a dog for sale or buy a cat for sale from a puppy breeder or a kitten breeder. Yet animal shelters are filled with dogs and cats who must find homes. So rather than buying a dog or puppy for sale from a dog breeder or buying a cat or kitten for sale from a cat breeder, we encourage people to adopt a dog, adopt a cat, adopt a puppy or adopt a kitten at their local animal shelter, SPCA, humane society or pet rescue group.
