We do not limit adoptions to Pitt County. If you are willing to drive here we will consider you for adoption.
However we can only take in pets from Pitt County.We are a small shelter that services the entire county of Pitt located in Greenville, North Carolina. If you have lost a pet please report it and come in and look immediately. Stray animals often times can only be held for the minimum 72 hours due to space for cats and 5 days for dogs. IF YOU HAVE LOST A PET it is CRUCIAL that you contact us immediately!!! NC Law only requires us to hold it 72 hours but effective 1/1/15 we will hold stray dogs for a period of 5 days. !!! Also if you live within the city limits of Ayden, Grifton, Bethel, Farmville, or Winterville these towns have holding pens where they often hold the animals for 72 hours so please contact them as well!! If you have a pet you wish to surrender to us you must CALL us first to see if space is available for intake. If space is available you will be given a time to bring your pet in. Please bring any medical records that you may have for your pet and a minimum of a valid driver's license. We cannot guarantee adoption

About Our Shelter:

We are a part of Pitt County Government and have to house all of the unwanted animals in Pitt County.
Our adoption hours are from 1pm-5:00 pm Monday-Friday and on Saturdays from 11am-4:00pm

Most Saturdays dogs are taken to the local PetCo store for adoption from 12-5 pm! And we DO NOT intake animals on weekends. Please call to schedule weekday animal dropoffs.

Our Adoption Process:

We offer a very simple adoption process. All animals MUST be spayed/neutered before going home with the adopter! All of our dogs are vaccinated with DHPP upon entry to our shelter. Puppy fees are $90 if under 4 months of age. Over 4 months of age dog adoption fee is $100. Kitten fees are $65 and cats over 4 months of age are $75. Any animal over four months of age will receive their one year rabies vaccine.

You must be at least 18 years old to adopt.

What is the difference between adopting a dog, adopting a cat, adopting a kitten or adopting a puppy versus getting dogs for sale, cats for sale, puppies for sale or kittens for sale from a dog breeder or a cat breeder? When someone is breeding puppies or breeding kittens, they are creating new dogs and cats who need homes. Some people are interested in a very specific breed of dog, cat, puppy or kitten and they think the only way to find that specific breed is to buy a dog for sale or buy a cat for sale from a puppy breeder or a kitten breeder. Yet animal shelters are filled with dogs and cats who must find homes. So rather than buying a dog or puppy for sale from a dog breeder or buying a cat or kitten for sale from a cat breeder, we encourage people to adopt a dog, adopt a cat, adopt a puppy or adopt a kitten at their local animal shelter, SPCA, humane society or pet rescue group.
