Cities, Towns, and/or Counties We Serve:

Located in DeKalb County, we service the Metro Atlanta area and work closely with other rescue groups and animal control.

About Our Shelter:

PAWS Atlanta is a private, not-for-profit animal welfare organization founded in 1966, originally as the DeKalb Humane Society. We provide love, nutrition, medical care and basic training to enrich the lives of homeless animals until permanent, safe homes can be found.

Our mission is to build a community of caring, by people helping pets and pets helping people.

We offer pet adoption services, low-cost vaccinations, spay and neutering, discount health preventatives, behavioral training, a pet dental clinic, a pet food bank and education through community outreach.

We receive no funding from federal, state or county governments; the vital services we offer to the community, are made possible by the thoughtful generosity of our supporters, grants and fundraising.

Our no-kill philosophy is very simple. It means that we give all of the animals in our care, the attention they need and deserve. Only terminally ill or extremely aggressive animals who have been evaluated as such by independent, certified trainers will be euthanized. PAWS Atlanta does not euthanize a cat or dog due to space constraints.

Our Adoption Process:

Our dog fees are $175, and cat fees are $100. All animals are spay/neuter, microchipped, current on all shots at time of adoption. We require you to fill out an application, come into the shelter with family members that are part of the adoption process, and also any other dogs that may be living in your home to make sure that all are in agreement on the animal they choose to bring home.

All of our dogs are temperament tested, and have some basic training.

Our Adopted Pets:

We have helped lots of pets connect with loving and caring owners. Check out our adopted pets list!

Why should you adopt?

Dog adoption and cat adoption saves lives. Adopt a dog or adopt a cat and you'll have a friend for life! What is the difference between adopting a dog, adopting a cat, adopting a kitten or adopting a puppy versus getting dogs for sale, cats for sale, puppies for sale or kittens for sale from a dog breeder or a cat breeder? When someone is breeding puppies or breeding kittens, they are creating new dogs and cats who need homes. Some people are interested in a very specific breed of dog, cat, puppy or kitten and they think the only way to find that specific breed is to buy a dog for sale or buy a cat for sale from a puppy breeder or a kitten breeder. Yet animal shelters are filled with dogs and cats who must find homes. So rather than buying a dog or puppy for sale from a dog breeder or buying a cat or kitten for sale from a cat breeder, we encourage people to adopt a dog, adopt a cat, adopt a puppy or adopt a kitten at their local animal shelter, SPCA, humane society or pet rescue group.

Humane America Animal Foundation, dba Adopt-a-Pet.com, is a non-profit, tax-deductible 501(c)(3) adoption advertising charity. Our mission (and passion) is to help get homeless pets out of the shelters and into loving homes. Let us know what you think! Suggestion & Comment Box
