Dog adoption and cat adoption saves lives. Adopt a dog or adopt a cat and you'll have a friend for life! Contact us, or contact another local humane society, animal shelter or SPCA.
We Serve the Following Cities, Towns, and/or Counties: COPE serves Will and Grundy counties in Illinois. We do not have a shelter and are working to achieve that goal so we can further reduce the number of homeless and unwanted pets in our area and place them in loving forever homes.

We welcome new volunteers, so if you are interested in volunteering or becoming a foster parent, please contact us!

C.O.P.E. Animal Rescue
About Our Rescue Group
COPE (Cat Overpopulation Planned Endeavor) is a non-profit, 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to reducing the number of homeless and unwanted pets in Will and Grundy counties, spaying and neutering as many cats as possible through our TNR program, providing care for colonies of feral cats, removing non-feral strays from the streets and placing them into our adoption program after providing them with proper medical care.

We are also committed to rescuing abandoned and/or injured pets who are in need of medical attention and forever homes. COPE is a no-kill organization, and does not believe in euthanasia as a means of controlling pet overpopulation.

COPE is 100% volunteer managed and operated, and all funds received for the animals go toward the medical care, spaying/neutering, and the daily care of our pets until they are adopted into a forever family. No salaries are paid. 100% of the money donated for the animals is used for the animals.

Come Meet our Pets
The majority of COPE pets are in foster care and can be visited by setting up an appointment via email or phone. Our foster caregivers are flexible and can work within your schedule so you can meet your future pet. We would like to meet as many members of the adoptive family as possible during the initial visit so we can learn more about you and our pets' potential homes.

COPE cats and kittens may be visited at the PetSmart in Joliet off Route 30, across from Westfield Mall, and at the PetCo in Shorewood off Route 59. Members of our adoption team are at those locations during weekend hours as well as limited hours during the week.

Our Adoption Process
Our adoption fee for cats is $85.00, and completing an application is required after a telephone or email inquiry. All of our adoptable pets have received their rabies and distemper vaccinations as well as been tested for Feline Immunodeficiency Virus and Feline Leukemia. Most of our adoptable pets have been spayed or neutered prior to adoption. If they are adopted before they could be altered, we can refund part of your adoption fee after you provide us documentation that they have been altered by you.

We make every effort to place our pets into the best possible home. Potential adopters go through a screening process to determine whether an adoption is in the best interest of the pet and the potential family. We help you match your needs with those of our pets, and are committed to helping you find the right pet.

Because we are an all-volunteer organization, if you reside outside of Will or Grundy county, we will have to discuss visitations and adoptions based on our foster homes' locations.

Dog adoption and cat adoption saves lives. Adopt a dog or adopt a cat and you'll have a friend for life! What is the difference between adopting a dog, adopting a cat, adopting a kitten or adopting a puppy versus getting dogs for sale, cats for sale, puppies for sale or kittens for sale from a dog breeder or a cat breeder? When someone is breeding puppies or breeding kittens, they are creating new dogs and cats who need homes. Some people are interested in a very specific breed of dog, cat, puppy or kitten and they think the only way to find that specific breed is to buy a dog for sale or buy a cat for sale from a puppy breeder or a kitten breeder. Yet animal shelters are filled with dogs and cats who must find homes. So rather than buying a dog or puppy for sale from a dog breeder or buying a cat or kitten for sale from a cat breeder, we encourage people to adopt a dog, adopt a cat, adopt a puppy or adopt a kitten at their local animal shelter, SPCA, humane society or pet rescue group.
