Puppy Railroad Rescue's adoption process

Additional adoption info

WE DO NOT HAVE A PHYSICAL SHELTER, all of our dogs are cared for by our volunteers in their homes all across New England. Foster homes are critical to our rescue efforts. Our foster families provide food, shelter and most importantly socialization for these special animals. The first step to adopting is to fill out an adoption application. It will be reviewed and your references will be checked. If you are a good match for the dog you are interested in adopting, you will receive a call to set up an appointment to meet your possible new family member at its foster home. Adoption fees are determined on an individual basis. Many dogs have required some more extensive veterinary care, boarding or special transportation arrangements. We determine that fee based upon these circumstances.

About Puppy Railroad Rescue

We are a small family run rescue that is working hard with a network of other rescues in New England, Georgia, North Carolina, and South Carolina, with the intent of saving southern dogs from rural county high kill shelters with only a 10% chance of being adopted or rescued. These shelters use barbaric and inhumane means for euthanizing, such as the gas chambers and heart stick; it is a painful and cruel way to die. The animals that are transported up here live with us in our home as part of our family. Our young children work with them daily to help socialize them and prepare them for family life with younger children. We have our own pack that we socialize them when they get here. We work a great deal on trust with them. In no time with food & water in their tummies and a warm and comfortable place to sleep with a bit of kindness and a gently hand these special babies come around into the most wonderful companions. These animals are so grateful for your kindness they give it back ten full and more. THANK YOU FOR CHOOSING TO ADOPT, AND SAVE A LIFE!

Support adoption and rescue. Why go to a dog breeder, cat breeder or pet store to buy a dog or buy a cat when you can adopt?

Why should you adopt?

Dog adoption and cat adoption saves lives. Adopt a dog or adopt a cat and you'll have a friend for life.

What is the difference between adopting a dog, adopting a cat, adopting a kitten or adopting a puppy versus getting dogs for sale, cats for sale, puppies for sale or kittens for sale from a dog breeder or a cat breeder?

When someone is breeding puppies or breeding kittens, they are creating new dogs and cats who need homes. Some people are interested in a very specific breed of dog, cat, puppy or kitten and they think the only way to find that specific breed is to buy a dog for sale or buy a cat for sale from a puppy breeder or a kitten breeder. Yet animal shelters are filled with dogs and cats who must find homes.

So rather than buying a dog or puppy for sale from a dog breeder or buying a cat or kitten for sale from a cat breeder, we encourage people to adopt a dog, adopt a cat, adopt a puppy or adopt a kitten at their local animal shelter, SPCA, humane society or pet rescue group.
