Mid America Horse Rescue (MAHR)
About Our Rescue Group
Our mission at Mid America Horse Rescue (MAHR) is to rescue and rehabilitate equine that are abandoned, abused and/or neglected and to facilitate the adoption of these horses. Our goal is to become the premier equine educational facility to the public by featuring well known clinicians and veterinarians to lecture and demonstrate proper care regarding the need to help these horses. We also offer our facility to other non-profits to host educational/riding workshops for mentally and physically challenged individuals. We believe in second chances for all our 2 and 4 legged family members. MAHR'S mantra is thatno horse should be denied a second career or a dignified retirement. Established in August, 2008 we are proud to announce we've assisted 23 former racehorses with their rehabilitation and know that together with your help we can make a difference for these horses.

horses can make wonderful pets, and rather than buying a horse for sale or finding a horse breeder, adopting a horse from
an animal shelter or rescue organization is the perfect way to add a horse to your family.
Keep in mind, there is a lot you will need to know when you provide a home for
a horse. You will need to learn what to feed them, how much exercise or
attention your horse needs, and many other important things about how to
house and care for a horse. There are different types of horses
including Andalusian, Appaloosa, Appendix, Arabian, Belgian, Clydesdale, Curly Horse, Donkey/Mule/Burro, Draft, Friesian, Gaited, Grade, Gypsy Vanner, Haflinger, Lipizzaner, Miniature, Missouri Foxtrotter, Morgan, Mustang, Norwegian Fjord, Paint/Pinto, Palomino, Paso Fino, Percheron, Peruvian Paso, Pony - Connemara, Pony - Dales, Pony - Dartmoor, Pony - Fell, Pony - New Forest, Pony - Other, Pony - Shetland, Pony - Welsh, Pony - of America, Quarterhorse, Rocky Mountain, Saddlebred, Standardbred, Tennessee Walking Horse, Thoroughbred, Trakhener, and Warmblood.
