About Our Rescue Group
Sheltering Hands is an all volunteer organization founded in 2007 by a group of 5 individuals who had been active in other groups but felt the need to place greater emphasis on adoptions, rescues and taking an active role in the community for spay/neuter efforts. This is accomplished through housing in a network of foster homes instead of an actual shelter and by encouraging adoptions on a daily basis at our Petsmart center, private placements through veterinary contacts and through the internet Our cats are rescuees from "kill shelters", stray populations, cats relinquished due to caretaker death or lifestyle changes, etc. We encourage and participate in spay/neuter programs within both Levy & Marion counties.

We adopt through Petsmart in Ocala, FL daily except Tues. generally from 11am to 4pm. or privately by special arrangements. Leave a message by phone or email and a volunteer will respond within 2 days We also have a web page shelteringhands.com and are also listed on Petfinder.com
Our Adoption Process
. Adoption donation fee is generally $75.00 but discounts are given for multiple adoptions. An adoption application and contract are required. Home visits may be requested prior to adoption. All cats are placed into indoor only homes
Dog adoption and cat adoption saves lives. Adopt a dog or adopt a cat and you'll have a friend for life! What is the difference between adopting a cat or kitten versus getting cats for sale or kittens for sale from a cat breeder? When someone is breeding kittens, they are creating new cats who need homes. Some people are interested in a very specific breed of cat or kitten and they think the only way to find that specific breed is to buy a cat for sale from a kitten breeder. Yet animal shelters are filled with cats who must find homes. So rather than buying a cat or kitten for sale from a cat breeder, we encourage people to adopt a cat or adopt a kitten at their local animal shelter, SPCA, humane society or pet rescue group. |
