New England Thoroughbred Retirement Center
About Our Shelter
We work directly with professional horsemen, trainers and owners at racecourses and breeding farms across the United States to ensure that Thoroughbred racehorses no longer fit for competition on the racetrack are provided with first-rate care for the rest of their lives. Each horse is rehabilited right here, at our own Watchtower Farm.
We’ve rehabilitated and retrained a wonderful variety of horses that includes Thoroughbreds from Kentucky, Florida, New York, California, Great Britain and Brazil.
All of our horses begin their retirement at Watchtower Farm in Deerfield, New Hampshire. Each one enjoys the security of a large box-stall at night and is turned-out on pasture every day. Our volunteer staff works hard every day, ensuring each horse receives the very best of care. We proudly maintain a selection of retired Thoroughbreds available for conditional-sale, lease and sponsorship that includes re-trained, Thoroughbred riding-horses and excellent sport-horse prospects.
Our Adoption Process
The retired Thoroughbreds in our care are available for conditional-sale, lease and sponsorship -- and include re-trained, Thoroughbred riding-horses and excellent sport-horse prospects.

horses can make wonderful pets, and rather than buying a horse for sale or finding a horse breeder, adopting a horse from an animal shelter or rescue organization is the perfect way to add a horse to your family. Keep in mind, there is a lot you will need to know when you provide a home for a horse. You will need to learn what to feed them, how much exercise or attention your horse needs, and many other important things about how to house and care for a horse. There are different types of horses including Andalusian, Appaloosa, Appendix, Arabian, Belgian, Clydesdale, Curly Horse, Donkey/Mule/Burro, Draft, Friesian, Gaited, Grade, Gypsy Vanner, Haflinger, Lipizzaner, Miniature, Missouri Foxtrotter, Morgan, Mustang, Norwegian Fjord, Paint/Pinto, Palomino, Paso Fino, Percheron, Peruvian Paso, Pony - Connemara, Pony - Dales, Pony - Dartmoor, Pony - Fell, Pony - New Forest, Pony - Other, Pony - Shetland, Pony - Welsh, Pony - of America, Quarterhorse, Rocky Mountain, Saddlebred, Standardbred, Tennessee Walking Horse, Thoroughbred, Trakhener, and Warmblood.
