Cities, Towns, and/or Counties We Serve:

SoCalGAL places ex-racing greyhounds in loving homes in Southern California, including Orange County, San Diego County, Riverside County, San Bernardino, and Greater LA.

About Our Rescue Group:

Southern California Greyhound Adoption Legion exists for the primary purpose of assisting in the placement of ex-racing greyhounds by fostering Hemopet long-term kennel residents and owner returned greyhound companions. When a foster home is open and no appropriate Hemopet greyhound is available, a greyhound may be transferred from another greyhound rescue group.

Our available greyhounds are housed in volunteer foster homes with other greyhounds. While in foster care, the ex-racing greyhounds learn how to live in a home. Foster homes provide valuable information about personality traits, including how a foster greyhound reacts with children, small dogs, and cats.

Come Meet our Pets:

SoCalGAL fosters and greyhounds that have been adopted from SoCalGAL participate in CalGAP: California Greyhound Adoption Promotion Meet & Greets almost every weekend. Visit for a list of current events.

Our Adoption Process:

The SoCalGAL adoption application is available on the SoCalGAL website at

Our adoption donation fee is $250.00. All ex-racing greyhounds are spayed or neutered, have current blood work, and a medical checkup.

Why should you adopt?

Dog adoption and cat adoption saves lives. Adopt a dog or adopt a cat and you'll have a friend for life! What is the difference between adopting a dog or puppy versus getting dogs for sale or puppies for sale from a dog breeder? When someone is breeding puppies, they are creating new dogs who need homes. Some people are interested in a very specific breed of dog or puppy and they think the only way to find that specific breed is to buy a dog for sale from a puppy breeder. Yet animal shelters are filled with dogs who must find homes. So rather than buying a dog or puppy for sale from a dog breeder, we encourage people to adopt a dog or adopt a puppy at their local animal shelter, SPCA, humane society or pet rescue group.
