About Our Shelter:

We are a mandatory spay/neuter non-profit humane organization providing shelter, love and care for the unwanted, abused, and neglected animals in Lawrence and Magoffin Counties, Kentucky. We also provide educational programs to the public and schools in the area on the importance of spaying/neutering and pet responsibility. In addition, we offer low-cost spay/neuter programs for dogs and cats to the public in our effort to decrease the shelter population and the number of unwanted dogs and cats in our area.

Come Meet our Pets:

The shelter is located at 820 Isaac Park Road in Louisa, Kentucky. The shelter is open Monday -Thursday from 9AM-3PM, Friday 9AM-4PM. Weekends are by appointment by calling (606) 638-0512.

Our Adoption Process:

Adoption fee for dogs/puppies for people coming to the shelter is $75 which includes the mandatory spay/neuter, current on vaccinations, dewormings, rabies if old enough. We also do long distance adoptions to adopters in the northeast and other areas with fees ranging from $150-200, depending on area. This fee includes all of the vetting above as well as kennel cough vaccine, heartworm test and preventative, vet check, fecal, health certificate to travel.
Adoption fee for cats/kittens is $25 for males, $40 for females. Fee includes spay/neuter, vaccinations, dewormings.

What is the difference between adopting a dog, adopting a cat, adopting a kitten or adopting a puppy versus getting dogs for sale, cats for sale, puppies for sale or kittens for sale from a dog breeder or a cat breeder? When someone is breeding puppies or breeding kittens, they are creating new dogs and cats who need homes. Some people are interested in a very specific breed of dog, cat, puppy or kitten and they think the only way to find that specific breed is to buy a dog for sale or buy a cat for sale from a puppy breeder or a kitten breeder. Yet animal shelters are filled with dogs and cats who must find homes. So rather than buying a dog or puppy for sale from a dog breeder or buying a cat or kitten for sale from a cat breeder, we encourage people to adopt a dog, adopt a cat, adopt a puppy or adopt a kitten at their local animal shelter, SPCA, humane society or pet rescue group.
