About Our Shelter:

Located in beautiful north central Wisconsin, we have a beautiful new facility and dog walking trails. We are a full service, unlimited admissionhumane society shelter contracted with the county to house all stray animals. We believe in the humane and ethical treatment of all living creatures, and promote these beliefs in our actions and educational outreach programs. We work with rescue groups, volunteers, and the public to promote sterilization of companion pets and "forever" homes. All dogs, cats and rabbits are sterilized before adoption or have a scheduled appointment at a time determined by veterinary staff.

Come Meet our Pets:

We are open to the public from noon until 5 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Friday and Saturday and noon to 7 on Thursday. We are closed on holidays, Wednesdays and Sundays. We are located at 7001 Packer Drive in Wausau WI.

Our Adoption Process:

Pre adoption application required, including references, and proof of home ownership or rental permission forthe pet in question. All members of the household are required to visit the pet prior to adoption. In the case of dogs, other dogs in the household must meet potential new dog. Selections are not made on a first come basis, but an overall likelihood of a successful placement based on the application information and meetings. When someone is breeding puppies or breeding kittens, they are creating new dogs and cats who need homes. Some people are interested in a very specific breed of dog, cat, puppy or kitten and they think the only way to find that specific breed is to buy a dog for sale or buy a cat for sale from a puppy breeder or a kitten breeder. Yet animal shelters are filled with dogs and cats who must find homes. So rather than buying a dog or puppy for sale from a dog breeder or buying a cat or kitten for sale from a cat breeder, we encourage people to adopt a dog, adopt a cat, adopt a puppy or adopt a kitten at their local animal shelter, SPCA, humane society or pet rescue group.
