Areas Penny's Puppy Paws Dog Rescue serves

Penny's Puppy Paws is a small dog rescue based in the Haut St-Laurent region of Quebec. We do not have a shelter so we depend on the kind souls who foster for us. We take in strays, and dogs that are scheduled to be euthanized at local vet clinics for having been there too long. We do take in the odd owner surrender but only if it is an emergency, we do not believe in supporting the cruelty of surrendering your pets without just and sufficient cause.

Additional adoption info

All of our dogs are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, tested for heartworms, de wormed, and prevented prior to leaving. There is an adoption fee of $280 per dog. We do not adopt out dogs based on a first come first serve basis, we believe that in order for the dog and the potential owner to be truly happy, they have to be matched based on compatibility. We have an adoption application that helps us decide first and foremost whether you're a suitable adopter, and second which dog is best suited to your life style.

About Penny's Puppy Paws Dog Rescue

Penny's Puppy Paws is run by 2 volunteers. The rescue was started when Penny received a call about a Doberman at a local vet clinic that was going to be euthanized because his time at the clinic had expired. It was decided that between her and her neighbor (the 2nd volunteer) they would foster the dog until it found a new home. It wasn't a week before it became apparent that the dog had underlying mental issues including fear aggression. It was so severe that after a professional evaluation of the dog it was decided that the best option for his safety was humane euthanasia. That was a low point for PPP rescue, it was the first dog taken into foster care and it definately didn't pan out right, but we hold him in high regards as the dog who started it all. In 2 years Penny has single handedly saved nearly 20 dogs by fostering them in her own home a little at a time and finding them very specific forever homes. We've had our ups and downs, and we've grown from it as a whole. In recent news we've begun the construction of a website and have done some fundraising in order to raise the money needed to become provincially incorporated. Once we have become incorporated we intend to apply for our Canadian Charitable number in order to become a more self-sustained, and efficient rescue to save the dogs of our community.

Support adoption and rescue. Why go to a dog breeder, cat breeder or pet store to buy a dog or buy a cat when you can adopt?

Why should you adopt?

Dog adoption and cat adoption saves lives. Adopt a dog or adopt a cat and you'll have a friend for life.

What is the difference between adopting a dog, adopting a cat, adopting a kitten or adopting a puppy versus getting dogs for sale, cats for sale, puppies for sale or kittens for sale from a dog breeder or a cat breeder?

When someone is breeding puppies or breeding kittens, they are creating new dogs and cats who need homes. Some people are interested in a very specific breed of dog, cat, puppy or kitten and they think the only way to find that specific breed is to buy a dog for sale or buy a cat for sale from a puppy breeder or a kitten breeder. Yet animal shelters are filled with dogs and cats who must find homes.

So rather than buying a dog or puppy for sale from a dog breeder or buying a cat or kitten for sale from a cat breeder, we encourage people to adopt a dog, adopt a cat, adopt a puppy or adopt a kitten at their local animal shelter, SPCA, humane society or pet rescue group.
