The Big Lick Ferret Shelter & Hospice is located in & services the Roanoke, Virginia area. WE DO NOT SHIP. You must live within a 30 mile radius of Roanoke VA to participate in our Adoption program.

About Our Shelter:

We are a small group of volunteers dedicated to helping domestic ferrets by providing temporary respite to them while they wait for their forever homes. We also provide information to the public about the proper care of ferrets.
All ferrets under the care of the Big Lick Ferret Shelter & Hospice are ADV tested upon intake. If medical records are not available we have them first vaccinated for rabies & have a distemper titer done. If the titers come back in the protective range we don't vaccinate. Canine distemper vaccine reactions are common in ferrets.

Why should you adopt?

small animals can make wonderful pets, and rather than buying a small animal for sale or finding a small animal breeder, adopting a small animal from an animal shelter or rescue organization is the perfect way to add a small animal to your family. Keep in mind, there is a lot you will need to know when you provide a home for a small animal. You will need to learn what to feed them, how much exercise or attention your small animal needs, and many other important things about how to house and care for a small animal. There are different types of small animals including Chinchilla, Degu, Ferret, Gerbil, Guinea Pig, Hamster, Hedgehog, Mouse, Prairie Dog, Rat, Skunk, and Sugar Glider.
