Adoption Application Procedure

Francisvale Home for Smaller Animals is a non-profit, no-kill animal shelter. Our goal is to provide caring, temporary shelter until the animals in our care find suitable, loving, permanent homes. The following guidelines are provided to you, the potential adopter, so you know what to expect throughout the application process. Francisvale reserves the right to decline applications. Adoptions are at the discretion of Francisvale.

1) Submit application online at www.francisvalehome.org. Please include complete veterinary and personal references. If you are interested in more than one animal, you may put more than one animal’s name on your application.

2) A Francisvale staff member will review your application and if all adoption requirements are met a staff member will call you to set up an appointment. Scheduling of an appointment does not imply approval for adoption.

3) Initial meeting with dogs or cats (ALL members of family household required to meet Francisvale animal before adoption decision is determined).

4) Introduction of existing family pet(s) to Francisvale dog (occassionally, more than one meeting is necessary).

5) Home visit completed by Francisvale representative.

6) Application approved or denied. Pending the completion of all of the above steps and approval of the adoption application, a decision regarding adoption of animal is typically made within one week.

7) If the application is approved, adoption counseling takes place with a Francisvale representative to assist in a smooth transition of Francisvale animal into their new, permanent home. (information is given about diet, containment/management/crating, baby gating in house when dog is to be left alone, housetraining, safe outdoor exercise, preventative veterinary care, manners and behavior training, etc.)

Multiple applications are accepted for dogs and cats. The goal of Francisvale is to match animals and families to the benefit of both. Therefore, Francisvale reserves the right to make adoption decisions based on the animal’s permanent placement in a loving home.

Adopt a Pet is the easiest way for you to search for a new pet in Radnor, PA.

Support adoption and rescue. Why go to a dog breeder, cat breeder or pet store to buy a dog or buy a cat when you can adopt?

Why should you adopt?

Dog adoption and cat adoption saves lives. Adopt a dog or adopt a cat and you'll have a friend for life.

What is the difference between adopting a dog, adopting a cat, adopting a kitten or adopting a puppy versus getting dogs for sale, cats for sale, puppies for sale or kittens for sale from a dog breeder or a cat breeder?

When someone is breeding puppies or breeding kittens, they are creating new dogs and cats who need homes. Some people are interested in a very specific breed of dog, cat, puppy or kitten and they think the only way to find that specific breed is to buy a dog for sale or buy a cat for sale from a puppy breeder or a kitten breeder. Yet animal shelters are filled with dogs and cats who must find homes.

So rather than buying a dog or puppy for sale from a dog breeder or buying a cat or kitten for sale from a cat breeder, we encourage people to adopt a dog, adopt a cat, adopt a puppy or adopt a kitten at their local animal shelter, SPCA, humane society or pet rescue group.
