Nova Scotia SPCA Colchester Branch
About Our Shelter
We are a branch of the Nova Scotia Society for the Prevention of Cruelty of Animals covering the County of Colchester. Our mandate is to provide care & shelter to abandoned & abused animals until they can find a new permanent home. We are a non-profit society who are not government funded & depend on donations, fundraisers & adoption fees to keep our shelter open. We also provide education to the public on the humane care of animals & promote that all animals should be spayed & neutered to prevent unplanned births.
Come Meet our Pets
We have a website that is updated for us by a business who volunteers their services by providing us with the site and updates which is www.colchesterspca.ca. We don't have internet at the shelter. The animals can be seen at the shelter located at 408 Industrial Ave, Truro, NS. The shelter hours are 11-3 Tues to Sat and the telephone number is 902-893-7968. We hold several fundraisers per year such as BBQ's, canteens, annual Dog Walk-a-thon, yardsales, Plea letter, annual calendar where the pics are chosen by vote by a voting contest, and our Christmas table in the Truro Mall. We are always looking for new members and volunteers to help us at the shelter or our events, or to sit on our board of volunteer, elected representatives..
Our Adoption Process
We have adoption fees to help cover our costs of housing & medical care for our animals:
Kittens (fee includes refundable portion on proof of spay/neuter) $100
Cats (spayed/neutered) $100
Puppies (fee includes refundable portion on proof of spay/neuter) $ 175
Dogs $ 125 Spayed/Neutered

Dog adoption and cat adoption saves lives. Adopt a dog or adopt a cat and you'll have a friend for life! What is the difference between adopting a dog, adopting a cat, adopting a kitten or adopting a puppy versus getting dogs for sale, cats for sale, puppies for sale or kittens for sale from a dog breeder or a cat breeder? When someone is breeding puppies or breeding kittens, they are creating new dogs and cats who need homes. Some people are interested in a very specific breed of dog, cat, puppy or kitten and they think the only way to find that specific breed is to buy a dog for sale or buy a cat for sale from a puppy breeder or a kitten breeder. Yet animal shelters are filled with dogs and cats who must find homes. So rather than buying a dog or puppy for sale from a dog breeder or buying a cat or kitten for sale from a cat breeder, we encourage people to adopt a dog, adopt a cat, adopt a puppy or adopt a kitten at their local animal shelter, SPCA, humane society or pet rescue group.
