Adults can be adopted in any state. Animals under 6 months of age that can not be altered prior to adoption can only be adopted by residents of Lynchburg and Amherst Counties PLUS counties adjacent to Amherst. Adjacent counties include: Appomattox, Bedford, Campbell, Nelson & Rockbridge Counties. About Our Shelter:

We are a facility shared by an Adoption Center and Animal Care & Control. Our goal is no more homeless animals and to reduce the pet overpopulation.

Come Meet our Pets:

We are located in Central Virginia. One hour south of Charlottesville, One hour north of Roanoke, Virginia.

We are open Monday - Friday from 11 to 4 p.m. On Thursday evenings we are open until 7 p.m. Satruday 9 to 1 p.m., closed Sunday but will meet potential adopters that can not come during the above hours by appointment. We can help get animals closer to you by making travel arrangements.

Our Adoption Process:

A pre-approved application is required. Applications may be obtained online through our webiste. Vet references will be checked.
Dogs: adults $ 100., Small dogs & pure breeds $ 125. Puppies $ 125.
Cats & kittens $ 90.

When someone is breeding puppies or breeding kittens, they are creating new dogs and cats who need homes. Some people are interested in a very specific breed of dog, cat, puppy or kitten and they think the only way to find that specific breed is to buy a dog for sale or buy a cat for sale from a puppy breeder or a kitten breeder. Yet animal shelters are filled with dogs and cats who must find homes. So rather than buying a dog or puppy for sale from a dog breeder or buying a cat or kitten for sale from a cat breeder, we encourage people to adopt a dog, adopt a cat, adopt a puppy or adopt a kitten at their local animal shelter, SPCA, humane society or pet rescue group.
