About Our Shelter:

The Boone Area Humane Society was founded in 1977. We believe that because people own domesticated animals, we have a responsibility to ensure their welfare. To ensure humane treatment, we respond to animal neglect and abuse calls, provide animal control, operate an animal shelter for lost, found, and unwanted pets and provide humane education.

Come Meet our Pets:

Our hours are Monday through Saturday are 11AM-5PM. Closed Sundays and holidays.

Our Adoption Process:

After filling out an application, there is a 24 hour application process time. We DO adopt out of state. There are three main points of interest that we look at for potential adopters.
A) Make sure we have your home address and that you have spoke to your landlord and have their approval for an adoption if applicable.
B) Check with your vet and make sure any current animals in the home are up to date on vaccinations to include distemper and rabies.
C) Make sure you have a set up for your potential best friend to include food supplies, bedding/shelter, and toys. Be aware that pet supplies could potentially cost over $300 a year and $400 dollars in maintenance medical care a year.

Dog adoption is $95 to include spay/neuter, vaccinations (not to include rabies) and microchip.
Adult cats (6months and older) are $50 to include spay/neuter, vaccinations (not to include rabies) and mocrochip.
KIttens are $75 to include spay/neuter, vaccinations (not to include rabies) and microchip.

Why should you adopt?

Dog adoption and cat adoption saves lives. Adopt a dog or adopt a cat and you'll have a friend for life! What is the difference between adopting a dog, adopting a cat, adopting a kitten or adopting a puppy versus getting dogs for sale, cats for sale, puppies for sale or kittens for sale from a dog breeder or a cat breeder? When someone is breeding puppies or breeding kittens, they are creating new dogs and cats who need homes. Some people are interested in a very specific breed of dog, cat, puppy or kitten and they think the only way to find that specific breed is to buy a dog for sale or buy a cat for sale from a puppy breeder or a kitten breeder. Yet animal shelters are filled with dogs and cats who must find homes. So rather than buying a dog or puppy for sale from a dog breeder or buying a cat or kitten for sale from a cat breeder, we encourage people to adopt a dog, adopt a cat, adopt a puppy or adopt a kitten at their local animal shelter, SPCA, humane society or pet rescue group.
