About Our Rescue Group:

Our Mission: Adopt a Golden Knoxville is a volunteer, nonprofit organization dedicated to finding warm, loving permanent homes that can provide a high quality of life for Golden Retrievers in need. Our goal is to prevent Golden Retrievers from becoming strays or adding to the shelter overpopulation. Golden Retrievers, regardless of medical needs or age, will receive an evaluation, spay/neutering services, veterinary care, behavioral training if required, and safe passage into a permanent loving home. In addition to providing those services, Adopt a Golden Knoxville is intent on educating and assisting the East Tennessee general public regarding responsible pet ownership, spay/neutering, obedience training, and veterinary/specialists referrals. Adopt A Golden is also dedicated in educating the public of the issues with puppy mills.

Our Adoption Process:

Our adoption process starts with completing an application and submitting a non-refundable $20.00 application fee. The adoption fees vary by age. (See below)
Adoption Fees as of February 1, 2012:
Pure Bred Puppies (6 weeks to 5 months) = $425
Mixed Puppies (6 weeks to 5 months) = $350
Puppies (6 months to 11 months) = $300
1-4 year olds = $300
5-9 year olds = $250
10+ = Donations
Adoption fees go to help offset the medical costs for our incoming dogs. On average, Adopt A Golden spends over $405 per dog. We are not a government run shelter, therefore, the money used to help vet and care for the dogs comes from adoption fees and donations. All dogs are spayed/neutered vaccinated and treated for any infections of which we become aware. Serious medical problems are also treated. Our fees also help with behavioral training and boarding.
We know you are excited about the possibility of bringing a new friend into your home. Please know our application asks many questions regarding your lifestyle , how the dog would spend his or her day. We want to match our orphaned goldens with the best family for him or her. All of our dogs are required to be “inside” dogs. Goldens are not happy being left outside and away from their families.
Once we receive your application and application fee, one of our volunteers will contact you for a phone interview and to set up a home visit. All family members must be present for the home visit.

Why should you adopt?

Dog adoption and cat adoption saves lives. Adopt a dog or adopt a cat and you'll have a friend for life! What is the difference between adopting a dog or puppy versus getting dogs for sale or puppies for sale from a dog breeder? When someone is breeding puppies, they are creating new dogs who need homes. Some people are interested in a very specific breed of dog or puppy and they think the only way to find that specific breed is to buy a dog for sale from a puppy breeder. Yet animal shelters are filled with dogs who must find homes. So rather than buying a dog or puppy for sale from a dog breeder, we encourage people to adopt a dog or adopt a puppy at their local animal shelter, SPCA, humane society or pet rescue group.
