Iron County Animal Shelter's adoption process

Additional adoption info

We have a few requirements when adopting one of our pets. You MUST be over the age of 18 to adopt from Iron County Animal Shelter. You are REQUIRED to do the following within 30 days of adoption: spay or neuter your pet, vaccinate your pet against rabies, license your pet in the appropriate city or county of your residence.

We currently have a $25 adoption fee. Anyone renting or leasing must have written permission from their landlord before an adoption can be approved. Any restrictions regarding type or size of animal must be noted. We do allow you to take a pet home and try them out for a few days to see if they will work for you. Other conditions may appy.

About Iron County Animal Shelter

This shelter was established in 2009. The Iron County Sheriff’s Office is proud to provide this service for the residents of Iron County who rely on the Iron County Government for their animal control needs.

The Iron County Animal Shelter is a “No Kill” shelter. We rely heavily on volunteers to help us find good homes for the animals that end up in our shelter. The Iron County Sheriff’s Office has partnered with Best Friends Animal Society, Pet Finder and several other animal rescues in the area to help us find good homes for animals that have been abandoned by their owners. We encourage animal owners to spay and neuter their pets so we can avoid dealing with the large numbers of stray and unwanted animals that end up in our shelter.

If you are interested in becoming a volunteer for the Iron County Animal Shelter please call us at 435-867-7500 or use the volunteer information provided on this web page.

Support adoption and rescue. Why go to a dog breeder, cat breeder or pet store to buy a dog or buy a cat when you can adopt?

Why should you adopt?

Dog adoption and cat adoption saves lives. Adopt a dog or adopt a cat and you'll have a friend for life.

What is the difference between adopting a dog, adopting a cat, adopting a kitten or adopting a puppy versus getting dogs for sale, cats for sale, puppies for sale or kittens for sale from a dog breeder or a cat breeder?

When someone is breeding puppies or breeding kittens, they are creating new dogs and cats who need homes. Some people are interested in a very specific breed of dog, cat, puppy or kitten and they think the only way to find that specific breed is to buy a dog for sale or buy a cat for sale from a puppy breeder or a kitten breeder. Yet animal shelters are filled with dogs and cats who must find homes.

So rather than buying a dog or puppy for sale from a dog breeder or buying a cat or kitten for sale from a cat breeder, we encourage people to adopt a dog, adopt a cat, adopt a puppy or adopt a kitten at their local animal shelter, SPCA, humane society or pet rescue group.
