Foundation for the Care of Indigent Animals
About Our Rescue Group
The Foundation for the Care of Indigent Animals is a small, nonprofit, all volunteer organization that takes in small "adoptable" dogs that would otherwise be euthanized. Normally, they are under 20 lbs. Often they have medical problems, most of which can be reversed. Our fees range from $100 to $250, which covers spay or neutering, vaccines, worming and any medical attention each dog may need; all are licensed and some are microchipped. We do not have a shelter and the dogs are in foster homes; they are shown every Saturday from 10-1:30 at different pet stores and locations in the San Diego area. And, they come with a lifetime guarantee, if at any time, for any reason, an adoption does not work out, you may bring the dog back. Our goal is to find loving, lifetime homes.

Special Thanks!
The FCIA would also like to express gratitude to the PETCO Stores, PetSmart and Pet People for continuing to hold adoption events at their stores.

Have you been to The Animal Rescue Site? Visit The Animal Rescue Site once a day, click on the "Feed an Animal in Need" button, and give food to a previously abused or abandoned animal now residing in a shelter or sanctuary. It takes only seconds of your time and there's no cost to you. Site sponsors pay for the food, which is distributed by two leading animal protection organizations: North Shore Animal League America and The Fund for Animals. Clicking is easy... remembering is usually the hardest part. As we don't have a shelter - we will be posting where we will be showing the dogs from week to week. Check our other website at www.fcia.petfinder.org
for an up-to-date schedule of where we will be each Saturday.

Please note that adoptions require applications be processed and approved by the board and the dogs are not available the same day the application is submitted.

Our Adoption Process

To adopt any of the dogs on this list, please contact 619/466-0426 after 6 p.m. for more information, unless otherwise requested on the pet's description. We require an adoption application. Depending on how much has been spent on the dog, the adoption fee varies as stated above. WE DO NOT SHIP our dogs as it is too stressful for them to be in the cargo area of the plane. Generally we don't release the dogs at the adoption site that day except on occasion to former adopters

Dog adoption and cat adoption saves lives. Adopt a dog or adopt a cat and you'll have a friend for life! What is the difference between adopting a dog, adopting a cat, adopting a kitten or adopting a puppy versus getting dogs for sale, cats for sale, puppies for sale or kittens for sale from a dog breeder or a cat breeder? When someone is breeding puppies or breeding kittens, they are creating new dogs and cats who need homes. Some people are interested in a very specific breed of dog, cat, puppy or kitten and they think the only way to find that specific breed is to buy a dog for sale or buy a cat for sale from a puppy breeder or a kitten breeder. Yet animal shelters are filled with dogs and cats who must find homes. So rather than buying a dog or puppy for sale from a dog breeder or buying a cat or kitten for sale from a cat breeder, we encourage people to adopt a dog, adopt a cat, adopt a puppy or adopt a kitten at their local animal shelter, SPCA, humane society or pet rescue group.
