About Our Rescue Group:

NOLA Labrador Retriever Rescue is a volunteer run, nonprofit (501c3) organization dedicated to placing Labrador Retrievers into approved, loving homes and promoting responsible pet ownership.

Our mission is to provide:

permanent adoptive homes for unwanted, abandoned or abused labs;

medical care and foster homes for rescued dogs;

education to pet owners regarding spaying/neutering and responsible pet ownership; and

public information about irresponsible breeding practices and animal abuse in an effort to end both.

Our Adoption Process:

NOLA Labrador Retriever Rescue does its best to match the right family with the right dog. The dogs in our program have been let down in some way, and we want to ensure their new forever home is the best home possible for them. Anyone interested in adopting a dog from us needs to fill out an application, an adoption contract and agree to the following:

THE DOG WILL BE PART OF OUR FAMILY

NOLA Lab Rescue does not adopt to families that want an “outside” dog. All our dogs must live in the house with their families. The dog will not be kept outdoors during your work hours, or left outdoors unsupervised at any other time. You must agree to keep the dog on-leash in unfenced areas. A tie-out is not an acceptable method of containing a dog on your property.

OUR OTHER PETS ARE SPAYED/NEUTERED

NOLA Lab Rescue will not place a rescued Lab in your home if there are dogs in the house that are not spayed/neutered. The only exception is if your current pet is actively involved in “showing” and this will be verified.

THE DOG IS NOT A “SURPRISE GIFT”

NOLA Lab Rescue does not adopt out “gifts”. All members of your immediate family need to be involved in the adoption process and must be present during interviews and home visits.

WE WILL ENROLL IN OBEDIENCE CLASS WITH OUR DOG

NOLA Lab Rescue strongly suggests that you enroll your new pet into an obedience class within 30 days of adoption. An obedience class will help you train your dog and start to build a bond with him/her. Crate training is especially helpful when you adopt a younger dog and need to potty train it. The crate is a wonderful training tool to keep your lab safe and your house in one piece when you’re not home.

WE WILL VISIT OUR VET WITHIN 7 DAYS OF ADOPTION

NOLA Lab Rescue requires you to bring the dog to your veterinarian within 7 days of the adoption. The dog will need to have a general health exam and you will need to purchase heartworm preventative and provide micro-chip ID to your veterinarian. This is also a good time to discuss a vaccination schedule with your vet and yearly heartworm testing. Your dog must be on heartworm preventative year round, no exceptions.

WE OWN OUR HOME OR HAVE LANDLORD’S PERMISSION TO HAVE A LARGE DOG

NOLA Lab Rescue will approve applications for adopters that reside in townhouses, condominiums, apartments or rental housing provided you supply us with the property owner’s name, phone number and his/her written permission to have a large breed dog. You must also have a plan outlined to exercise your dog outside of a fenced area.

WE SHALL NOTIFY NOLA LAB RESCUE IF WE CANNOT KEEP THE DOG

If you cannot, or if you choose to no longer, keep the dog you must return him/her to NOLA Lab Rescue - no exceptions. There will be no refund of adoption fees if the dog is returned to NOLA Lab Rescue after the 7 day adoption trial period.

Disclaimer: NOLA Lab Rescue reserves the right to accept or decline any person or family as adopters for any reason. The final decision on all adoptions is up to the vote of the board of directors.

Why should you adopt?

Dog adoption and cat adoption saves lives. Adopt a dog or adopt a cat and you'll have a friend for life! What is the difference between adopting a dog or puppy versus getting dogs for sale or puppies for sale from a dog breeder? When someone is breeding puppies, they are creating new dogs who need homes. Some people are interested in a very specific breed of dog or puppy and they think the only way to find that specific breed is to buy a dog for sale from a puppy breeder. Yet animal shelters are filled with dogs who must find homes. So rather than buying a dog or puppy for sale from a dog breeder, we encourage people to adopt a dog or adopt a puppy at their local animal shelter, SPCA, humane society or pet rescue group.

Humane America Animal Foundation, dba Adopt-a-Pet.com, is a non-profit, tax-deductible 501(c)(3) adoption advertising charity. Our mission (and passion) is to help get homeless pets out of the shelters and into loving homes. Let us know what you think! Suggestion & Comment Box
