Cities, Towns, and/or Counties We Serve:
Baton Rouge, Louisiana, East Baton Rouge ParishAbout Our Rescue Group:
Project Purr BR exists to save as many of the cats and kittens at East Baton Rouge Parish Animal Control as possible. Prior to our existence, 90 percent of felines who entered the Animal Control shelter died there. Project Purr BR is changing that and is leading Baton Rouge into a time when no kitten or cat is killed needlessly at our community's shelter.Project Purr BR and other nonprofits are engaged the Baton Rouge No Kill Initiative, in which adopting, fostering, and spaying/neutering become the priority at the East Baton Rouge Parish Animal Control Center. A No Kill Community is one in which no healthy, treatable, or rehabilitatible dog or cat is put down. Furthermore, a No Kill Community recognizes the importance of sterilizing free roaming/feral cats, and once fixed, supports their right to exist.
We in Project Purr BR have two major programs. The first is our Rescue-Foster-Adopt program. We rescue cats and kittens from Animal Control, place in foster homes, provide comprehensive veterinary care including spay/neuter, and then adopt into loving homes. The second major program is our Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) program in which we humanely trap stray/free roaming/feral cats and have them spayed/neutered, vaccinate for rabies, and then release back to their original habitat. Given that over 80% of all kittens are born to feral cat colonies, the TNR program is vital to controlling the overpopulation of cats and the euthanization of cats in our community.
All of this is made possible by our wonderful adopters, volunteers, board members, and donors! Thank you all!

Our Adoption Process:
Adopt a CatProject Purr makes it easy for you to ADOPT! Why? Because the more people who adopt our pets into loving homes, the more we can rescue from being put down at Animal Control. It's win-win!
Every cat must be spayed/neutered prior to adoption! You can pre-adopt kittens that have not been spayed/neutered and arrange pick up of your new pet after recovery from the surgery. Also prior to adoption, all cats/kittens are vaccinated, micro-chipped, de-wormed, and tested for disease. However, even after we sterilize all cats/kittens, we recommend you introduce your new pet to your veterinarian within your first 72 hours of adoption to ensure good health and transition into their new home.
