Cities, Towns, and/or Counties We Serve:

We serve primarily the Houston, Texas area. However, we have rescued poodles across the U.S, and people come to our facility to adopt poodles from several other locales and states.

About Our Shelter:

PRH is a private, tax-exempt non-profit organization chartered by the state of Texas. We are a 501c(3) corporation as recognized by the IRS. PRH rescues distressed dogs, mostly poodles, from a variety of sources. These include public animal shelters and humane organizations across a six or seven state region as well as individuals or breeders who, for various reasons, "surrender" their dogs to our care.

Our mission is to rescue and rehabilitate distressed and homeless poodles. Our goal is to match the perfect pet to the
right loving family. Our facility has grown to offer expert veterinary care, safe shelter, clean food and water, plus human affection. We offer playful poodles and mixes for adoption. We average 90 poodles in our rescue program.

On many occasions we have rescued large numbers of dogs from court-ordered “puppy mill” seizures. Once we rescue dogs, we rehabilitate them and offer them for adoption to carefully screened families and individuals. In every case, Poodle Rescue of Houston is asked to accept dogs into our care and we usually do accept them. It is our outstanding reputation that makes other organizations, courts and private individuals turn to us for our assistance.

PRH is one of the largest and most fully equipped poodle rescue facilities in the U.S. We are extremely proud to have a vet on site several days a week. Plus we have a surgery suite on our property.

Our dogs are kept in a beautiful facility, part of the five acre Prestonwood Kennels. We are very passionate about outstanding care and placement of these dogs. Very few of our adopted dogs are returned to us.

Come Meet our Pets:

We accept walk-ins from 9AM to 5 PM, seven days a week although the best time to visit is between 10 AM and 4 PM.
However, with the exception of a few paid staff members who see to the basic needs of the dogs, we are primarily a volunteer organization. If you will be traveling to our facility from out of town or have other special considerations or time constraints, we recommend scheduling an appointment to ensure that someone will be ready to help you make the most efficient use of your time.

Our Adoption Process:

Adoption fees vary at Poodle Rescue of Houston. Before dogs are released for adoption they are healthy, spayed or neutered, heartworm and parasite negative, current on all vaccinations and their teeth are cleaned if necessary. Few shelters provide this level of veterinary care for their animals. Based upon the cost of obtaining similar services from a private veterinarian, our adoption fees are a bargain.

What are the steps to adoption?

- Visit the dogs at our facility.
- You will be interviewed by one of the officers of the rescue group.
- If approved, you can then fill out the application . There is no on-line application.
-If ready, you can then pay your full adoption fee and take your new buddy home if he/she has been spayed/neutered and is medically ready to go!

We accept cash, checks and major credit cards excluding AmExpress.

Why should you adopt?

Dog adoption and cat adoption saves lives. Adopt a dog or adopt a cat and you'll have a friend for life! What is the difference between adopting a dog or puppy versus getting dogs for sale or puppies for sale from a dog breeder? When someone is breeding puppies, they are creating new dogs who need homes. Some people are interested in a very specific breed of dog or puppy and they think the only way to find that specific breed is to buy a dog for sale from a puppy breeder. Yet animal shelters are filled with dogs who must find homes. So rather than buying a dog or puppy for sale from a dog breeder, we encourage people to adopt a dog or adopt a puppy at their local animal shelter, SPCA, humane society or pet rescue group.
