The shelter serves dogs only in the Yerington, Nevada area. It is a 'no kill' shelter. The city recently did a number of upgrades making the shelter a pleasant place to come to interface with prospective family members.

Dogs cost $70 which includes spay/neuter and rabies shots. For puppies there is an additional deposit of $60 required. This is refunded when proof of spay/neuter is presented. The adopter is given a voucher good for a free spay/neuter provided by YAPS - the Yerington Animal Protection Society.

About Yerington City Animal Shelter

The shelter belongs to the city but is staffed and administered mostly by volunteers. Food, medical supplies, etc are provided by donations. YAPS (Yerington Animal Protection Society) provides all spay/neuter services.

This is a no kill shelter, and dogs can stay as long as necessay to find a 'forever' home.

All dogs are turned out for exercise and/or walked daily.

Puppies and small dogs are generally kept in foster homes.

So rather than buying a dog or puppy for sale from a dog breeder or buying a cat or kitten for sale from a cat breeder, we encourage people to adopt a dog, adopt a cat, adopt a puppy or adopt a kitten at their local animal shelter, SPCA, humane society or pet rescue group.
